Fascinating captain as Spock would say! Amelia Earhart episode started out strong with the history Earhart! What Earhart did as an aviator was exceptional! Archive footage shows the spirit and charisma of Earhart! The second half of this In Search of episode was conspiracy theory about Earhart's disappearance. Was Earhart spying on the Japanese? Was Earhart captured and killed? Others claimed Earhart is alive living under another name? The non-conspiracy theorist claimed Earhart just crashed into the ocean. Experts, theorist, and narration mixes well for the episode. The first half was fascinating, while the second half was hard to swallow. But could of happen which is what made In Search of such a great show. 7 out of 10.

What Became Of Amelia?

Excellent episode details in stylish and memorable fashion on pioneering aviatrix Amelia Earhart's rise to prominence in the 1930's as a female Charles Lindbergh, only to mysteriously disappear with her Navigator over the Pacific ocean in June, 1937. Many accounts claim that she survived the crash, only to be taken captive by the Japanese as a spy, where she may or may not have been executed. One eccentric admirer/historian even believes she was alive and well at the time, though the woman in question vehemently denied it. To date, the truth is still a mystery, though an obscure film called "Flight For Freedom" with Rosalind Russell has its own fanciful solution to this case...

In Search of... "Amelia Earhart" (1977)

It should come as no shock that the Amelia Earhart story would be covered by this series. Whatever happened to Earhart has been one of the greatest mysteries in the history of the world so this episode is highly entertaining as it takes a look at a couple theories. One theory is that the was working for the government and this was a mission to spy on Japan. Another theory has her plane crashing and her being taken hostage by the Japanese government. If you're a fan of the show, mysteries in general of Earhart's story then you'll certainly want to watch this episode. Yes, since this was first aired a lot more research has been done and more details are out there but you can only judge this for the time that it was made.
