Stone Statues
AaronCapenBanner23 September 2014
The mysterious 70-ton stone statues of the Polynesian land called Easter Island are the focus here, as modern day archaeologists and anthropologists try to discover how a supposedly primitive ancient people could have carved a reported 887 separate stone statues that have been discovered, with only primitive hand-made tools, or whether they had help from somewhere else... Also accounts their culture, and what cultural calamity could have happened to destroy this people, and make them turn on their gods, whom the statues were presumably built to honor. Despite the title, no on-screen massacres occur, though the strange nature and remoteness of the place is well conveyed.

In Search Of... "The Easter Island Massacre" (1977)

The seventy ton statues of Easter Island are the subject of this fascinating episode that takes a look at their history and who might have possibly built them but more mysteriously who was able to move them. This episode is actually one of the best of the series right now because the subject itself was just so interesting. It was rather fascinating getting to hear about these large statues and how (at the time) current people couldn't figure out how they were transported for such a distance. We also hear about other groups of people who had statue Gods and we learn the fate of some of them.
