Pete and Dud are at it again

Warning: Spoilers
Made by ATV, 'Goodbye Again' was essentially an expanded version of 'Not Only...But Also' made with an eye on the American market, hence the inclusion of guest stars such as Mel Torme and Anne Bancroft ( Mel Brooks' wife, then riding high on the success of the Dustin Hoffman movie 'The Graduate' ).

Amongst the sketches is an East German spaghetti western with English subtitles ( in fact they would have been dubbed, often badly ), a circus sketch in which Dud's speciality act is him diving into a bucket of petroleum, and Pete and Dud as two crooks who try to get Bancroft to take out insurance in case her house gets attacked by giant tarantulas. Our cloth-capped heroes are in a pub fantasising about film stars as usual, and the Twenties-style song ' Goodbye' crops up at the end. This is not Cook and Moore at their best ( there's nothing here to rival the Leaping Nuns, Superthunderstingcar or The Frog And The Peach ), but it is enjoyable viewing..

On the DVD release, all you get are selected sketches and interviews with the likes of Rob Bryden, but thankfully the original episodes are on You Tube. Anne Bancroft works well with Pete and Dud, and she has a fine singing voice too. Check out her rendition of 'Scarborough Fayre' with Mel Torme and Dud on the piano.

Funniest moment - during the Western spoof, we see a 'Wanted' poster for an outlaw who rejoices in the name 'Dead-Eye Dick'. The picture on the poster is that of President Richard Nixon!
