Missing Soldiers
AaronCapenBanner30 September 2014
Unusual episode has nothing to do with the supernatural, but instead focuses on the all-too real tragedy of soldiers still listed as missing in action, and the focus here is on families of soldiers who served in Vietnam, who never returned home, yet were known to have been prisoners of war whose bodies were never found, leaving them to wonder if perhaps they could still be alive, however unlikely that may seem after so many years. The governments still deny that they have been willfully abandoned, but relatives are not so sure, and want answers from the government that their fathers, brothers, and sons served. Poignant and memorable entry, particularly the ending.

An American tragedy
dtucker866 September 2023
To me this is one of those "very special" tv episodes that touched my heart. I am a retired Soldier who served in Desert Storm and unlike Vietnam I had the love and support of my fellow Americans (not to mention that I was given a wonderful "welcome home" to boot!) I am so glad that America has "grown up" so to speak since Vietnam. Today even those against the war still love and support those who fight it. This episode explores the possibility of servicemen being held in Indochina long after the war. It is too short a program to explore since a complex subject but it does what it can. A sad footnote is that it features an interview with a woman named Marian Shelton whose husband Air Force Colonel Charles Shelton is one of our MIAs. She fought for years to find out what happened to him but finally took her own life in 1990 she was also a victim of Vietnam.

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
So much potential but ended in disappointment. This was an overview of American involvement in the Vietnam War; Rumor from refugees about American P O W issues, interviews from family of service members. Talk about the state department. In Search of M I A's is just a glimpse of the problem. I want details, theories etc. 6 out of 10 stars. I was so interested in this episode. There was so little addressed. Not much here! Just kind of died! Good Narration by Spock! I Feel bad for the families. The people deserved answers and never received any from the State Department or the Government. This episode leaves an empty feeling.

In Search Of... "M.I.A.'s" (1981)

Nearly a decade after the Vietnam War ended several families were still waiting to find out what happened to their loved ones. This episode shines the spotlight on a couple families who never heard what happened to the men who went over to Vietnam. From here we learn about various rumors that over a thousand men are still there being held captive. The Vietnam War was always a hot topic event and so were the rumors of soldiers being left behind. It of course leaded to a popular Chuck Norris movie and this episode is also quite good. It manages to pay respect to the families that are missing men but it also makes you wonder what happened when the soldiers were supposed to have been released.
