Nearing The End
AaronCapenBanner2 October 2014
Penultimate episode in the series goes back over the territory of earlier 'The End Of The World', though here gets more general in approach, as any possible world-ending event is looked at, not just a giant asteroid or meteor that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. Will the eventual cause be man-made, or will it be a natural catastrophe that will see either the similar extinction of the human race, or if something could destroy the whole planet. Doomsday predictors and merchants have been with us since time was recorded, whether it be in year 1000, or the (now) past year 2000. Will it be millennium based, or can the year never be known until it happens...

In Search Of... "The Ultimate Disaster" (1982)

The next to last episode for the popular series takes us down a scare factor road as this tries to warn that there might be a major destruction of Earth in the near future. We see how earthquakes and volcano's are happening a lot more often and there's an expert on hand who claims that by 2000 the world might be over. Watching this episode sixteen-years after that date, the "scare factor" is certainly missing from the episode but I can see how this might have freaked some people out back in the day. For the most part it's an entertaining episode but it once again proves that no one knows when the end is going to happen.

Episode: B+

Fear factor.
mm-399 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Fear factor. The Ultimate Disaster uses the fear factor to get the viewers attention, and it did. Maximum and Stuff magazine use to write articles like the Ultimate Disaster. Sci fic, and Space network did similar shows about the end of the world. The Ultimate Disaster is cool, but scary to watch on such topics as what a super volcano, earth quakes etc could do. Experts explain the events and how the viewer would get a shellacking. Compared to the others like The Coming Ice Age or Moon Madness The Ultimate Disaster is run of the mill. In Search of was running out of ideas, but left when the viewer was still interesting. I was kinda freaked, but watch Moon Madness which is way way better. 6 stars.
