Where are all the top criminals?
Paularoc9 April 2013
Louis Hayward plays the suave man about town, Michael Lanyard, also known for some unstated reason as The Lone Wolf. Federal agents ask Lanyard to help them in tracking down some top criminals who have recently pulled off a number of major heists. An agent telephones Lanyard telling him to meet him at the Blue Lantern and that he's leaving something for him under the phone box in the drugstore near the nightclub. Upon leaving the phone booth, the agent is shot to death. Boy, phone booths were dangerous places; this is the third detective story I've seen this past couple of weeks where someone is shot leaving a phone booth. What the agent left for Lanyard was a key good for one dance at the Blue Lantern. Lanyard follows this lead and it eventually leads him to the Blue Mountain Copper Lodge near Reno, Nevada. There's quite a dramatic and well done ending. At less that a half hour, there are to be expected plot gaps, but nonetheless an entertaining story due in large part to Louis Hayward who does well with the role of Lanyard.

This one makes you want to watch more...

G-Men show up when the episode begins and they request that Michael Lanyard (Louis Hayward) helps them locate both the criminals AND loot from various crimes. They BOTH keep inexplicably keep disappearing and Lanyard is somehow the only one capable of investigating this case. One of the only clues is a key--and what, exactly, it opens isn't certain. The other is a dive in the city. Lanyard goes there but apparently he doesn't pass the test--and he's taken for his last ride. Fortunately for him, he's able to disarm the mug--and not only belts him but his sexy girlfriend right in the mouth! This sets the stage for the rest of the show, as it's jam-packed with tough and snappy dialog, some shootings and other assorted tough happenings. It comes off like a piece of film noir- -something I've never seen on TV. The only deficit, and it's very minor, is that the short time slot really makes the story a bit rushed. However, the show also has you wanting to see more--an obvious sign of excellence.
