An Endangered Species

The scenes of the dead in Wembley Stadium should had been shocking but somehow among the thousands of dead young people. Quatermass somehow survived covered in lots of dust and the sun has gone green.

Kapp has gone a little crazy but comes to his senses when the Planet People destroy all the machines and computers. Kickalong is still kicking about and he still has his machine gun. It is a wonder that with all his wandering that he has not been taken away by the aliens. His group also seem to be just going around in circles.

Quatermass has a theory that it is an alien machine that is taking the young people. He plans to go back to the old people and set a trap. Produce synthesised smell of young people, when the machine takes them, it will beam up a nuclear bomb instead.

It is just a matter of whether his plan will work and if there can be a family reunion as his granddaughter is still following Kickalong.

At least Quatemass and Joe Kapp stop moping about and get into action. The plan might be far fetched but it is fun. I just knew that elderly scientist who worked in a fancy soap factory would come into use.

An entity targeting young people was borrowed somewhat by Torchwood: Children of Earth. Aliens wanted children as some sort of a recreational fix because of the chemicals they produced.

In contrast to the atmospheric BBC Quatermass serials which were made on a low budget. The expensive ITV production ended up being flabby, ponderous and silly at times. A lot of the big set pieces failed to give it an epicness it striven for. No wonder a cut down movie version would be later released.
