Chaos and hysteria is unleashed in the final episode. The seed in the Martian genes that led to the wild hunt and the widespread slaughter has been ignited in some humans.

The capsule seems to have opened up and let loose a malevolent energy which has spread all over London.

Quatermass himself has feelings of going on a new purge. On the other hand Roney and a few others seem immune, yet they are seen by the rampaging crowds as victims to be attacked.

It is Roney who has a plan to defeat the energy from the capsule and bring back normality. It is for Quatermass to tell the world and convince humans to keep their primal urges in check.

Without doubt Nigel Kneale is reacting against the horrors of the second world war, the evils of having a doctrine of racial purity.

In terms of television production the reach was not always there. You can tell documentary footage was used to show London burning and getting a hysterical crowd to act properly on television did not entirely convince. Some of the extras were hysterical in a hammy way.
