This episode of "The Johnny Carson Show", from September 8, 1955 was the funniest one I've seen yet
tavm9 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
During the monologue, Johnny mentions about trying to gain some weight because of many people commenting on his thinness. He then brings James Arness, the star of "Gunsmoke" which would premiere the following Saturday, to do a trick draw in front of a mirror which he does as he defeats his image! The next sketch has Carson buying various products as he describes to the proprietor the animated commercials that go with them. A running gag is the line "Are they marching?". Last, we're at an Air Force base as Carson as an officer tries to get some military plans off the ground while also running his family stationed there. This was quite a much funnier episode than the previous week's, not to mention many of the other previous ones I watched on the Shout! Factory disc one of "The Johnny Carson Show" DVD collection, largely because of the Arness bit and the commercials-inspired one though there were some moments in the Air Force one as well. Carson, and the audience, really seemed to enjoy themselves in this one. So on that note, this was the best episode of "The Johnny Carson Show" I've seen yet.
