Back in the 1960s, it was a somewhat common practice to produce a 'full' ten minute short on an upcoming film. Rather than an at-most three minute trailer, I guess the thinking was that by showing such as a 'coming attraction', they would stir even stronger audience anticipation.

In this one, they hit it right on the mark. Not only are you enticed to watch the whole film (in the case of most of us, I guess, for at least the third or fourth time), but you are also informed of the actual nuts and bolts behind the production. The exorbitant amount paid for the rights, the valuable script/story, the critical casting of actors who'd already starred in the Broadway show, and the INCREDIBLE detail of costumes and sets. For the race at Ascot, they even had a stage operative known as the 'glove lady' to ensure that this one item of the costumes was done correctly. The incredible makeup, hairdressing, set construction, cinematography and music were also as painstakingly developed as they were imaginatively constructed. All under the personal direction of the producer, the head of the studio itself: Jack Warner.

A real delight.
