Moving and poignant
nshtayyeh27 August 2020
Najjar skillfully portrays love's chaos within a history of personal and political turmoil. It was a very intimate journey with the couple as they tried for divorce, met with both continuous, subtle reminders of the power of love, as well as challenges to reigniting it while coming to terms with themselves. The moments of silence, for me, were the loudest, most intimate and engaging. Brilliant soundtrack too. Would recommend!

Poetic guide through history
wysaid10 August 2021
A moving film that takes you by the hand and slowly walks you around the hidden historical details of Palestine, through the backdrop of a bitter divorce. Few films on Palestine have been able to capture the nuances of the conflict and for those interested to dive into them or to even be taken away by breathtaking cinematography, I would highly recommend to add this film to the top of your movie list.

Beautiful!

Between Heaven and Earth beautifully intertwines the nuances of Palestinian love and life and subtlety presents them through a moving storyline. I loved what the road trip symbolized with the delightful personalities and heavenly landscapes encountered on the way. And the ending scene was just perfect! The film speaks easily to an international audience who will relate to the human story and also learn a thing or two about the intricacies of being Palestinian. Najwa, this is your best work. Bravo!

Heavy burden
dkuttab-676019 August 2021
Like all Palestinian filmmakers Najwa feels the burden of the Palestinian cause on her shoulders and at the same time tries to simlify and humanize Palestinian life.

Najwa Najjar's signature films always have a love story that being challenged and never gives a final verdict on that or the main plot.

Enjoyable to watch and realistic in its protrayal of an undereported life of Palestinians who have to go through so much difficulties just to be together because one happens to be a citizen of Israel and the other happens to be living under occupation. The apartheid regime that Human Rights Watch and others have talked about comes to life in the story of this couple from two parts of historic Palestine.

As alwaysNajwa's insights are powerful because of their human perspective. She doesn't need to speak in political terms to send a powerful political message that Palestine must be free and that all Palestinians from the sea to the river (and diaspora) are one people who have a right to determine their own future.

Thoroughly enjoyable and meaningful

Really beautifully done. How the story is woven and how it tells so much in subtle ways. Very realistic and true to the daily life of families and married couples in Palestine. The filming and the scenery and the production are superb and world-class quality. This is the kind of film I would watch more than once. I highly recommend it.

Put on your watch list

I finally watched "Between Heaven and Earth" yesterday at the first Drive In Cinema in Amman . The movie is very deep and actually took me 24 hours to fully grasp and analyze. I will not give any spoiler but Being from this part of the world, the events in the movie , although symbolic at times, touched me very much . Happy watching everyone

Amazing, must-see film!
bhelene-9379524 September 2020
This was an amazing, and must-see film! I had the pleasure of watching this during the virtual Toronto Palestine Film Festival, a first Canadian premiere, and I was thoroughly impressed and absolutely loved this film. The intricate narratives woven through the characters and history, against the backdrops of the land and different musical styles kept me captivated throughout the whole journey. I was sad to see this film end, I wanted more. I discovered so much about certain parts of history that I never even had known before. I discovered intricacies of human nature and relationships that are universal across borders, nations, or countries... That these journeys show the resiliency of love and human spirit, despite (or as a result of) the depths of past traumas (whether historical and/or deeply rooted personal experiences). Resiliency especially in the Palestinian context. It was both a sad and happy awakening and realization...that there's so much we have yet to discover, about our own personal selves and others, about how the past, present and future are all interconnected. There is so much depth and many layers in this film and I believe each viewer will come away with their own personal awakenings.

A well paced eye opener
akandalaft18 November 2020
Even though I'm quite au fait with the situation in Palestine, this film was a real eye opener, a rare glimpse of life in the West Bank, of Palestinians living in what became Israel, of the kafkaesque hurdles of their existence. It's also a conventionally entertaining drama, with wonderful performances and some beautiful set pieces.

A Powerful Film

This film was done with a lot of dedication and care on so many levels. There was not a moment when watching where I was not on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. The music was exceptional, as well as the production and videography. I especially loved the storyline - it was very real and showed the true essence of life and its many unexpected journeys. Highly recommend.

I loved everything about this film.. Every scene was aesthetically pleasing and displayed a face of Palestine that is creative and alive. The music was very well chosen. The storyline was very humanizing and kept the viewer engaged as it unfolded until the very last second. It made me laugh, cry, wonder, and appreciate all at once. Bravissimo!

Travellers' tale of depth and meaning

Once again Najwa Najjar takes her viewers deep into both her homeland and its history, revealing secrets about not only her protagonists but also the creation of the state of Israel. Evocative cinematography and well drawn characters enrich the storytelling as the lead characters embark on a quest through the physical and psychic territory of their parents. At once a story of love lost, found and taken away as well as highlighting the everyday realities of Palestinians seeking simply to live their lives. This movie is definitely a must watch for anyone with interest in great storytelling and/or the Middle East.

Poignant beautiful film!
rulasaid9 August 2021
If there is a film that encompasses the Palestinian struggle in such a poetic sequence of story and images, it would be this. I highly recommend anyone trying to understand the nuanced history of the Palestinian struggle, while also being entertained by the main plot of a couple seeking divorced.

Professional, entertaining and a purposeful film
maharabie9 October 2020
I watched Between Heaven and Earth virtually as part of the DC Film Festival. This film explores the hoops a couple wishing to obtain a divorce has to go through during their journey from the Israeli occupied West Bank to a city in Israel. Although it is not in-your-face advocacy, the film also shows how Palestinians in Israel are often considered second class citizens under suspicion and mistrust. It is always a question whether to allow them and their companions who have proper permits to "enter" or not. In her tribute to her father's and her Palestinian roots, Najwa Najjar produced an elegant, serious narrative carried through by well developed characters. It is a story of love and tolerance. The film shows the physical beauty of the area they travel within despite a situation polluted with political strife. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and would recommended it to both those who are not familiar with the politics of the area and those who are. Well Done Najwa Najjar... Good luck.

Between Palestine's Magesty & Misery
dinaraad-8510328 August 2021
Najwa Najjar knoched this one straigh out of the ball park. No spoilers here, because this movie is an adventure that deserves to be enjoyed and savoured from beginning to end. I'll just say, from beginning to end, I had a silly smirk on my face and a swelling lump in my throat untill I gushed out into tears at the end ...There is something so captivating about the bitter-sweet combination of an anguished love story and the quest for one's origins, coupled with the heartbreakingly beautiful backdrops across Palestine's peotic landscape.

Whether you are a supporter of Palestine or not, it's worth watching. It's a great film simply because it's a great film.. great story, great actors, great cinematography, great music, seamless editing.. the fact that IS a Palestinian story is the cherry on top. This new brand of Palestinian films shedding light on the HUMANITY OF Palestine and its people through universally relatable stories is doing a bigger service to raising international awareness and empathy for the rights of persecuted Palestinians than decades of organised political efforts.

Hats off the all those involved in this wonderful film. Can't wait to watch what you do next.
