Starts well, but politics bring it down.

I am not a huge comic book fan but I like to see documentaries about their history. Geek, is very good for most of it's running time showing how comic books evolved and reflect the times they are created. But then, the politics came in. The filmmakers basically turn a documentary about comic books. Then it turns into a liberal screed against Republicans. I agree that comics can be more than just entertainment but the the grade school liberal bs, gimme a break.

Worth Watching

I loved this movie. It has depth and really delves deep into the history of comics. I loved the points they made in reference to Joseph Campbell! The interviews were interesting, and now I want to go to another Comicon!

A Great Watch
madisbr17 June 2020
Really well done documentary details the history of superhero comics from Action Comics 1 in 1938 till today, and its growing and evolving cultural impact through the decades to today where these films dominate the movie box office and comic-con cosplayers are a cultural phenomenon. The movie references Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" as the mythological underpinning as to why it resonates with the shared human experience. There are interviews with Marvel greats Stan Lee and Roy Thomas, Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin, and others. The intersection of comic books/superheroes and the Star Wars universe, creation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, are intersection of comics/television/film and culture and politics are all covered in this excellent film.

AMAZING, UPLIFTING STORY

If you love comic books, super heroes, and the stories that inspire us, this is the documentary for you! A very well written, engaging, uplifting film that will make you laugh, think, and maybe even become a little inspired to be your own superhero.

Film includes history of superheroes and how they have evolved, showing how current events throughout time have impacted storylines and character development. We are able to lose ourselves in the documentary, very much the same way someone would lose themselves in a great book, finding ourselves becoming inspired and wanting to do more for ourselves and our community.
