Irritating so called experts indeed
thekimberley26 December 2021
I agree with all the aforementoined reviews. The presenters are very annoying. Everything they say is obviously scripted and is repeated in every episode again and again. And all these so called experts have the same script. But these so called experts are no experts at all. Not of WW2 structures and weapons and tactics. And they like to give us the idea that they have visited the sites themselves but they obviously never did. Only the Polish guy has. But that is how a script (in this case a very bad one) works. Show them some footage first and then give them some lines to speak in fron of a camera that obviously ads no value to the footage at all. These so called experts do there presenting (or better there guessing) in one and the same place so they have done it for all episodes in a mornings time I guess. It is not like James Holland who is a real presenter, expert and historian of Nazi structures, weapons and tactics and who goes out into the field. This is a sad documentary compared to nazi megastructures.

One step above History Chanel

Not as riddled with conspiracy theories as other newly produced WW2 "documentaries", this series adds a few new lesser known locations and their stories.

Fascinating history. Annoying presenters

This show Need a one narrator, zip. Fire the irritating pedantic casbah presenters. They are truly irritating and useless padding. The experts stating the obvious in such a dramatic manner is as humorous as Rob Bell's hairdo.

Season 1 was good. Season 2 just unwatchable.

Watchable once.

Was okay. But couldn't understand all of the presenters. If you're going to use experts in a certain field then they should stick to what they know and not speculate on what they don't. Lots of speculation and guessing. More real historians who know what they are talking about would have made it far better. Felt like they were trying to fill airtime and kept repeating what was said. More British and German historians would have made this great.

Horrible information presentation
cyefimov29 January 2020
Repeating same statements over and over again during the episode. Just filling episode time frame. All the facts related to specific base are presented in the beginning of the episodes. Tons of stupid 'could be' questions asked with no answers or theories.

Irritating presentation.

Each episode could be condensed down to ten minutes if you took out the endless repeating of info and dramatic stuffing. Also where the presenter repeats what the expert has just said. Though this extends to other tv productions.

Disappointing
Lee-Broad17 June 2021
I was looking forward to this show. I just about managed to get through the first episode.

It didn't break new ground. Most of, if not all the content has been known for decades and has been captured in similar programmes. I'm pretty sure Abandoned Engineering has covered this particular location.

I found some of the experts annoying. Especially when they kept on asking the same question at the end of their segment 'so what were they doing here?'. I'm probably not being fair to the experts as this is probably due to editing and scripting.

In any case, anyone who has any basic knowledge of WW2 history could answer that. I frequently found myself calling out the answers.

Speculate, speculate, speculate

The only thing they seem to do is make "could be" statements wich to into the extreme, no person should take this seriously. The claims made and reasons given are absolutly rediculous. Do not watch

Sorry excuse
wickedwookie78 September 2021
This series is the sorriest excuse for a documentary series I have ever seen. The so-called experts are clueless and spend their time just supposing and guessing. Have they not done any research into the Germans and Nazi's WWII operations? It seems like they were just surprised by their involvement in this series and did no preparation.

The way the shows are put together is terribly annoying and stupendously repetitive. They are constantly rehashing what they just said not one minute ago. Is the target audience people who can't form new memories?

This series is a complete farce in the face of so much research data, available information and actual experts in the field. It is an inexcusable waste of time.

Commentators Need To Be Experts
crunkkelly12 July 2022
The producers of these shows need to use expert commentators that are related to the subject that is being shown. Some of these commentators have no experience in the subject. It distracts and lends less credence to the shown subject.

Pointless
lah-5060222 June 2022
So called, or perhaps self appointed WW2 'experts', in shadowy lighting, speculating on the possible use of various installations. Interlaced with dramatic 'facts'.

If the 'experts' don't have time or can't be bothered researching the subject, they and the narrator could at least use the correct pronounciation of people's names and place names.

Annoying presenters
simonshanks17 March 2024
Rob Bell talks in an over exaggerated manner, only pailing in comparison to his facial gestures & hand waving. Dramatic music makes it even worse. The subject matter can speak for itself. There is no need for all this forced dramatics. Interesting subjects ruined. This also appears to have been made for American TV with long advert breaks, as it can often repeat information (were they would have been coming back from an add break). Everything added tries to make this series bareable. The actual information predented in a episode could easily be condensed into a few minutes. Save yourself the time & avoid.

Barely watchable, lacking in substance.
AChaoticGood22 June 2023
The footage and CGI illustrations are quite good, but recycled ad nauseum. I could barely get through the first episode as it was so light on information and felt condescending.

Each presenter says the same things over and over without adding anything informative. They all just seemed amazed at the scale of the bases rather than logically lay out the timeline of how these were built and what actually went on there during the war.

Either I have been spoiled by enthusiast documentaries made by passionate content creators on free 'unnamed' streaming sites or this just isn't very well put together.

I am thinking its the latter.

If you are interested in WW2 history, do yourself a favour and skip this series to go find something more comprehensive.

Just another rehash
thwyllo11 May 2022
It's pretty safe to say that after three quarters of a century pretty much everything is known about the Nazis. This tedious documentary proves it just once more.

Good Idea Spoilt
jmullen-424 January 2023
This programme could have been very good. The precept is great but it is spoiled by constant repeats throughout each episode. It's almost as if the presenters did not have enough information to fill the hour programme. It would have been much better if it had been aired as 30 minute segments. The use of several presenters is also confusing. I have previously enjoyed Rob Bell as a host, but he let's the side down with this one.

The history of the German world war two sites should have been a great story, but this show just doesn't hold your attention long enough to gain any insight. I certainly will not be watching the second series.
