An Our Gang knockoff with only a few laughs
planktonrules17 July 2018
With the the success of Hal Roach's Our Gang pictures, it's not surprising that other studios copied the formula. It's also not surprising that for the most part, these faux films didn't quite have the same quality as the originals. In this case, tiny Bray Studio created the McDougal Gang...their version of the originals.

When the story begins, an evil man kidnaps a girl. He then gives a cat to the girl's friends and it's inside a cat carrier--and he tells them to give it to the girl's parents. The cat has a ransom note tied to it...and the instructions tell them to tie the money to the cat and let it go...as it will find its way home. Naturally, the kids follow the cat and find the kidnapper...where they dispense kid justice on the man (one of the only funny moments in the film). Oddly, there's more AFTER this.

The film has a few problems--the biggest one is that the script needed tightening and editing. There also are a few tiny scenes that simply should have been edited out because they didn't work. Overall, quite uneven and interesting...though not all that funny (except when the kidnapper is getting his beatdown).
