Get inside the head of a villain
Rcwilkinson12316 February 2008
Clark takes a less-than-normal journey than he may be used to taking in this interesting 12th episode of the season.

When Lex goes to Detroit to retrieve Kara, who is suffering from amnesia, a jealous co-employee of Kara's at a restaurant pulls the gun on Lex. Lex falls under extreme conditions, and goes into a coma. With options getting slim on being able to save him, Clark must revert to a technology created by Lionel that allows someone to interrogate a mind of anyone in a comatose state, a method put to practice on terrorists in the past. While not a guarantee to enter the mind and come back out, Clark takes the risk to save Lex but discover what he has been thinking, leading to dramatic and interesting situations within his mind.

There is a lot to like about this episode: the exploration of the psychi of someone who is already extremely mentally unstable, the situations that Clark faces within Lex's mind, and the conflict that Lionel faces when both of his "sons"- Lex and Clark- face a fatal situation late in the episode, a threat of fatality that only someone like Chloe could step in and stop. The storyline also serves to weave Kara back into the threads of this season, as Lex claims that he can help her regain her memory. What is his true ulterior motive? We all know he can't be trusted by what he says on the surface...

Fracture
Colcatron19 April 2011
Clark must enter the mind and memories of Lex in order to find out where Kara and Lois have disappeared to. This is a more surreal episode than we usually see from Smallville. It's essentially an examination of Lex's psyche, with extreme versions of an evil Lex and a young "good" Lex portrayed as characters inside of Lex's mind. Just like in season 3's "Memoria" and season 6's "Reunion" the flashback scenes involving young Lex are dramatic and very effective, particularly the scenes between young Lex and Lionel. "fracture" at times feels more like an episode of Torchwood than Smallville, and the episode is much darker than the rest of the season, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. One just shouldn't expect a fun action story.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a bold episode. Lex gets shot in the head! Right in the head. And Clark jumps into Lex's mind with some Fringe machine and rummages around in Lex's memories to try and find out who shot him and where Kara and Lois are being held prisoner. Lex's evil self tries to stop Clark from seeing anything and Lex's good self tries to help. Some memories are trite, like a memory of his dad being abusive, some advance the Kara-search-and-rescue plot. But one memory, the memory of Lex and Lana having sex that evil Lex forces Clark to watch, is just perfect.

Chloe uses her meteor power to heal Lex's bullet in the head, and it leaves her dead longer than the last time she used it. It's getting pretty dangerous. How long until her meteor power corrupts her? She's probably searching for Hitler's grave on the internet right now.

Lex, alive again, has built a relationship with Kara while she was in Detroit. And now that she's back Lex promises to hold no secrets from her and help her recover her memories and find out who she really is. We've heard the "no secrets between us" spiel before, with Lana. Oh Lex, just a typical guy, using the same move on all the ladies.

Too little too late, Mr. Luthor...
m-4782627 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Lionel's past errors will clearly haunt him forever. The Luthor centric episodes, are most definitely the highlights of the Smallville series. They are raw, greatly acted and captivating throughout. Of course the show can never reach those early seasons heights and intensities, but it's nice it tried to go back to that once in a while. In the previous episode, « Julian » was murdered (and was apparently erased from all memories), Bizarro was obliterated, Fine and Oliver returned , and black canary was introduced. But it's in Fracture that things get interesting. Lex is tracking down Kara to help her recover her memory (with no ulterior motives, I swear...), and Clark makes a pact with the innocent kid inside of him, to help him save his soul... It's a very good episode, full of symbolism, showing how the show finally got its groove back since the Winter finale. And as things always come in threes, a third former Black Sash actor make his way into the show, to play another one time villain.
