Invasion of privacy
jordmartin15 July 2019
This had the potential to be a great documentary but the whole thing was ruined by the disgraceful invasion of privacy by the director. The 4 children had taken an oath to never continue the Hitler line, they had nothing to do with WW2, they're barely close relatives to Hitler.

It's sad, these children live a secluded paranoid life. I feel they have such a terrible burden to bare through no fault of their own. To take photos and harass them is disgusting.

Good documentary, prying director
Calicodreamin5 July 2019
The concept of this documentary is interesting, you often hear of hitler but not of his family. So it was certainly interesting to learn about his nephew William Patrick Hitler and to learn that he appeared to go against his uncle. Campaigning pro American during WWII, joining the Navy and eventually settling down in the US to raise his family in secret after the war.

After the that the documentary takes a turn, as the director follows around Williams children and takes secret photos and videos of their homes and business. I felt the director went too far to put that on camera, these men obviously want their lineage kept secret, and deservedly so...

Grasping at straws

Warning: Spoilers
This documentary lures you in with the promesse of a "pact", but it really looses its focus and vaguely ties it all up in the last few minutes. I understand the fascination with this family's impact on world history but what is the point of finding Hitler's grand grand nephews by second marriage ?

Good Topic, Disappoint Ending
vmanson-4901719 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is a really good topic as it focuses on other Hitlers. Could have included a bit more on his sisters as well. The only criticism is at the end they did something distasteful by invading and exposing the identities of currently living descendants of the Hitler and to make things worse, one of them is named Adolf Hitler. By the end you feel a tad shame for watching the documentary as the kids are are also victims of the war many many years later .

They dropped the bomb big time during the climax of the movie

Warning: Spoilers
During the interview in the driveway between the journalist and Hitler, who was shoveling snow, the conversation was very hard to hear and inaudible during certain parts. That conversation should have been cleaned up and amplified so that it was very clear, or at least captioned.

This should not exist

While it is interesting to learn about Hitler's private life and family, there are journalistic ethics and respect for privacy to take into account when making a documentary. This filmmaker flagrantly violated the privacy of still living descendants of relatives of Hitler, obviously against their wishes, and ends with a wild claim that these distant relatives made a pact to not reproduce based on the idea that there was something wrong with their blood (which would trace back to nazi eugenics). Non, monsieur Amara, a far more likely reason for this decision is you. I too would make that decision if I knew I'd condemn my progeny to such disrespect as you've shown these people.

Quick and lacking a purpose

Warning: Spoilers
The concept of this documentary was interesting, but it failed to live up to its premise. While the information presented was somewhat interesting, it was very rushed in its short run time. The ending where the filmmaker ambushes one of the sons of the main focus is very disrespectful and including it in the final product is on the verge of unethical. I was ready for the filmmaker to walk away respectfully when the man said, "I don't want to talk to you." Instead he stood there and kept hounding him. That lack of respect for a person's privacy makes a decent film not worth recommending to others.
