With the previous three parts of the "Super Ducktales" arc, the arc started off pretty decently despite being mixed on the introductory character of Fenton. Things did get even better, with Fenton becoming more likeable and being used more creatively complete with a very well done introduction to Gizmoduck. With the previous three parts, it was already a more consistent standard than with the "Time is Money", which had a very good first part but dipped with the other two parts before redeeming itself with the final two.
It was different for "Super Ducktales". This was a case of the second and the third parts improving on the first one, but whereas the fourth part of the "Time is Money" arc was one of the better parts of that arc the fourth part of "Super Ducktales", "The Billionaire Beagle Boys Club", is the arc's weak link. That is not by a little bit, this is by quite some way as "The Billionaire Beagle Boys Club" was the only part of the five to leave me underwhelmed. Of the second season (solely made up of these two five part arcs), it is the joint weakest along with the third part of the "Time is Money" arc "Bubba Trubba".
"The Billionaire Beagle Boys Club" has good things. The animation is bright and colourful, with nice detail in the backgrounds. The music is dynamic in character and the theme song is one of Disney's catchiest in a period full of catchy theme songs for the studio at the time. Have absolutely no issues with the voice acting, Alan Young and Russi Taylor were consistently great throughout the whole of 'Ducktales' and they are here, while June Foray was made for Ma Beagle.
A lot of the episode didn't do much for me, but things really do pick up in the fun and thrills departments in the climactic moments and the nephews' escape and the chase sequence are a lot of fun in visuals and writing. Gizmoduck is still well done, though he was used more creatively in the previous part. Some of the writing is smart and witty.
However, there were major debits to me. The biggest issue being the story. Was not crazy about the idea at the start and the execution of this idea was not only executed how as feared but it managed to do it worse. The whole premise just didn't make sense from the get go, and most of the story execution veered on ridiculous. Really didn't buy how wanted criminals were so easily accepted so quickly and easily without any explanation or reservations. Or that their lies were so easily believed despite such blatantly obvious evidence to the contrary. It was all of this that brought the episode down significantly.
Just to say, to me the Beagle Boys are great characters, awesome even at their best. Do though find them funnier and more plausibly written in other episodes. The treatment of poor Scrooge here veers on being too mean-spirited and did question a few times where someone does an act, that is the right thing to do, and doesn't do the most logical thing in that scenario (like with the remote).
