38 minutes is nowhere near long enough to even scratch the surface of the work of these two extraordinary filmmakers, but this documentary does provide some insights into their similar visions and and the many challenges they both faced. Interviews with the director's friends and colleagues, their letters read in voice-over, and of course clips from their famous films give this documentary veracity, as well as a fleeting sense of the directors personalities and artistic temperament. Anecdotes about famous filmmakers and the making of famous films will no doubt delight film buffs, and for the uninitiated images from films like Stalker and The Story of Pomegranates will likely tantalise. A must see for fans of the two directors.
