Amazing Conclusion to Castiel's Character Arc
alyssahamlet10 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Castiel telling Dean he loves him and coming out to express his true self is an amazing conclusion to the character growth and journey Castiel has been on since his introduction in 4x01. His devotion for Dean, while already known on a friendship level, becomes more impactful and meaningful now that it has been confirmed as romantic love and I can't wait to rewatch the series and see Castiel in this context. I took off one star for the bury your gays trope. While I do think that it makes sense that Cas would only reveal his feelings if it meant saving Dean's life, that fact that a character came out and then was immediately killed, no matter how noble the death, is an awful trope that sends a terrible message to LGBT viewers.
A sad end to an amazing character

I kind of let it go some seasons ago on the plot and story, that are sometimes average, sometimes bad since season 6. And on that matter this episode just follow the rule. About the big event of 5×18, I'm just torn apart. On one hand, Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles delivered great acting, and I was moved to tears. But Dean's reaction doesn't feel right. He's just standing here, quietly. And the way Castiel is mentionned in the two following episodes... As if Castiel had been just some sad collateral casualty and not "family". He deserved way better.
Beautiful. I still cry even 3 months after.

Misha's acting and Jensen's microexpressions, raw emotions, Richard's directing and Berens' writing.
Everything was perfect.
The parallels between Charlie and Stevie, Sam and Eileen, Dean and Cas were built magnifically.
The love sickness we as a fandom felt after viewing the episode, was like nothing we will (probably) experience ever again.
The show peaked here.
I only wish it got the ending it deserved.

Misha has been the only saving grace of this show for a while now and boy does he deliver.
Still very confused about the choppy editing, especially the sound effects cause yikes, but at least this was more satisfying than whatever happened afterwards.

The BEST episode of Supernatural
luciaescalantenegridduc7 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As Ms. Lady Gaga would say: "Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely-not-ever-been-done-before."
Bobo Berens writes one of, if not, the most heartbreakingly beautiful love confession in television history. And under the direction of Mr. Richard Speight Jr., Misha Collins absolutely crushes that scene and leaves us in a sea of emotion.
This episode will be remembered by many as of how good Supernatural can actually be when there's a team that cares about the characters and their development. Not following through with this storyline is not only a shame, it's also what makes the ending so incredibly bad.
Thinking about this episode a month later

The last ten minutes of this episode resuscitated my dead heart in the midst of the 2020 dumpster fire. It's a shame how disappointing the final two episodes ended up being; but riding the high of 15x18 with the fandom--in the middle of the election no less--was genuinely one of the most fun and joyful experiences of this plague-ridden godforsaken year. The level of care invested in this episode by everyone from writer Robert Berens to director Richard Speight Jr. to the actors (Misha is the standout for That Scene, of course; but I also want to add that Lisa Berry as Billie is phenomenal in this episode) really showed. This is a special one. I expect over time it'll endure not only as one of the most memorable moments of the series, but also an iconic moment in fandom history.
The most iconic and monumental episode of entire series

Beautiful confession, acting choice, Misha was amazing. Jensen in that last minute makes me to empathize Dean.
Sad to see how such powerful character as Cas go.
Sad to see what happened next with that confession - nothing. They won't address that.
But that scene with Misha and Jensen was good.
Thanks to them only.

Yh misha did a great job acting tears and emotions, the problem was it felt out of place just didnt fit. And the empty that took him and death looked weak. My favourite episode since it's just come bk on was the first one with mrs wood nypmh that was a great way to start the festive season the episodes since have been blah underwhelming. It is a repetitive show though and let's face it we watched it to stare at dean. Seasons 4 & 5 was the best of this series it went downhill after that but picked back up with its saving grace characters Crowley and rowena who were both a joy to watch.. this episode just didnt do anything for me sorry
It had to be bad
truthfinderalways31 December 2022
Well it's very simple equation if towards end the episode were as good as older episodes , then the makers would have wanted to continue still, till they reach the bottom , the show where characters are being reborn on public demand and not because writers wanted what else you could expect, imagine breaking bad continued on public demand by bringing Heisenberg back, do you think it would be still the best show in television history, writers are like sugar cane, how much ever juicy, sweet they are they can only give soo much amount of juice, after some time it's all crap, well i don't blame anyone but audience including myself , 327 episodes made with 100% honesty is too much to expect i just hope producers start considering the series as work of art and not money making machines.

This episode is the highlight of the season, one could argue this is where the story reaches one its longest-standing milestones. Viewers are rewarded with the pay off in the form of Castiel's confession to Dean, a relationship that has been brewing steadily for 12 seasons, and increasingly so during the last 3. I have nothing but good things to say about this particular episode.
The script was top-level and the acting was superb. Misha Collins, with this particular script, is given the opportunity to explore a more vulnerable side of his character, and he does a tremendous job with it. We feel what Castiel feels, we are drawn to his every word and gesture. Sadly this is also the last time we see Collins in the show, but Castiel, Angel of the Lord, has left an indelible mark in our culture, and, in part, it's thanks to Misha's charisma and Castiel's allure that the show was able to go on this long. For his part, Jensen Ackles remains a force to be reckoned with, and it's his talented acting choices, subtle yet powerful, what infuse Dean Winchester with the life-like quality we've all come to love and cherish. Both actors clearly put their hearts on their performances, and they delivered without missing a beat. The chemistry between the two is sincere, and that translates into one of the best duos in TV.
Despair, or The Truth, contains the soul of the show, and makes a bold statement; one of love, acceptance, hope and free will. Unfortunately, past this episode, the show decides to drop hastily most of the plot and disregard our characters' challenging personal journeys. For many fans 15x18 will remain the most poignant episode of the final season, and it certainly will be remembered as one of the most special and beloved in the entirety of Supernatural.

Misha Collins deserves an Oscar
amcgiboney6 December 2020
This episode was one of the best in the whole season. Misha Collins deserves so much for what he did for Cas. The whole episode is amazing but the 3 minute speech where we as the watcher really learns how far Cas has come on twelve years is phenomenal. Misha put his heart and soul into that scene and gave it all the emotion he had and it had me in tears. Thank you Misha.
Oh and Billie sucks.

Misha's and Jensen's acting was incredible, the scene of the love confession is one of my favorites of all time, and Castiel's speech is one of the best things I've ever witnessed. That's it. Everything that happened after this episode will be happily ignored, thank you.

Destiel fan or not, is hard deny that Misha's acting on that scene, you all know which one, was the mostly amazing I've ever seen. And Jensen's reaction was also brilliant and on character. And the importance of the scene... to the story/the show and to the fans is so big that is needless to say. Congratulations on Richard for the amazing direction too. In fact congratulations to all involved in this last really good Supernatural episode. And for that scene that will forever be in our minds.
The Heart of the show

Love to have the boys say there truth in the last few years the boys were always running in circles so to have them have a meaningful conversation was a breath of fresh air. Love my favorites Castiel , Sam w, Dean W, and jack! I'm a shipper and it was these words that I believe were the ones left unsaid and to have them out was refreshing and really gave me validation of how I was seeing the story being told. Still will believe that Covid-19 canceled the last two episodes!!!
Still beautiful. Still Dean Winchester.

This ep ruined my life in the best way possible?? It's always on my mind. The speech Cas gave. Misha's acting was impeccable. The wavering of his voice is making me tear up two months after it aired. Also, Dean sobbing on the floor. The microexpressions. The dejected look of his face. JenMish brilliance. But also the subtext? Dean clutching his heart while Cas says I've got you??? Chef's kiss.

Not a 10...but good
marymcfarland-018666 November 2020
This ep had its high points, its sad points, and its "nobody asked for this" points...and as much as I adore Supernatural, compared to some of their truly exceptional eps over the years, this was not a 10.
This entire season has been way overrated...likely due to it being the final season and we fans want it to be the best season ever and are rating it as such.
I figure folks will either over love it, or think it was "ok". I'm in the "ok" column on this one.

The scene that launched a thousand memes
path_wayss-5717422 November 2020
I understand this was the low point story wise to drive the seriousness of the fight but it fell flat for me. Not much than I can say about the last scene other then I know that Misha Collins can act better than that. It was over done and it's no wonder it's become a meme. The music choices the body language. Yikes! I think that reaction shot is going to be used unfortunately for years to come. And not in a good way.
