Disgusted by some of these players
brynners-8326630 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am disgusted that Elisabeth played this horrible issue to her advantage in the game. I cannot believe they'd vote kellie out after her trying to stand up for herself. Jamal and Janet deserve to win after trying to stand up for what is right. All the players who used this to their advantage really upset me. Episode hooked me, but really left me upset.

Incredibly hard to watch
Fresnik15 November 2019
I watched this episode with my wife and two daughters and afterwards we all sat down for almost two hours to talk about what is and what isn't appropriate behavior, how to handle uncomfortable situations, women's rights and what happened in the episode itself.

We watched an episode where a woman who was feeling uncomfortable with a man's frequent touching was voted off and then the man played the victim card and saying he's sorry without knowing what he's sorry for and being bothered that this issue kept coming up.

We watched another man stand up for women's rights with an on-the-nose and eloquent explanation. Faith in humanity restored. At least for one minute until he was voted out of the game.

Meanwhile two other contestants decided to use this situation to their advantage, pretending to be victims of harassment and get further in the game. And it worked.

This is all despicable and left a bad taste in our mouth. Even though Survivor is just a game show, the transgressions of this episode mirror in many ways what happens to many women in real life. Here, however, CBS had the power to do the right thing and right the wrongs, but they didn't, and it's too late now - the game has already played out and we're watching weeks old recordings.

CBS should have stood up for women's rights, because nobody left in the game seems to be doing so, except for Janet, and I fear dearly for her future in the game.

Dan's behavior completely unacceptable
MiketheWhistle14 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Let me just say that Dan's actions were unacceptable, and I think it should have been handled differently. I'm glad the producers did address it, and without being privy to the conversation don't know if he is simply ignorant or if he really is a problem. (I believe his apology was genuine, but don't know if it was because he was caught or genuine remorse; just no way to tell thru the tv.) Perhaps he is on the wrong show and should have gone on Naked and Afraid instead. I'm glad the women spoke up and wish they would have slugged him frankly and say keep your hands to yourself. My last comment is that the fact they didn't vote him off though means that it might not have been 100% as it is so difficult because of their editing and not knowing all that happens.

Just as horrific as I was told...
adotsey-3047115 January 2021
Fans who are bashing this episode for being "woke" are a different kind of scary.

I had heard about this episode when I first started binging last year. I went into this season blindly, only knowing that there was a very controversial episode.

And wow... am I disturbed.

Throughout the season we've seen Dan be weird to Kellee. We've seen her mention she doesn't like being touched, yet he persists. Somehow, she comes out of this as the bad guy.

When someone speaks up in defense of her, they become the target - and that is the scary part to me. I realize there are so many factors to this game, but it was a very scary thing to see so many people ignore these unwarranted advances for the sake of gameplay.

Those who state that she could be lying... were your eyes closed in the footage reels?

Also - the footage of Dan placing his hands on Missy's thighs is enough to convince me of his transgressions. He has stated so many times that he has a wife, yet even if I were cold, I would not grope a thigh the way he did. I wouldn't place my head on someone's crotch.

Jeff trying to get Dan to explain his side was a highlight, especially with Jeff speaking up for women.

Janet and Jamal were also saving graces. It made me feel strength in knowing that there are people who wish to speak up for what's right.

Lastly... unfortunately, from the get go I haven't enjoyed this cast. This episode proved that they are an especially dislikable cast.

When Lauren stated that repeated inappropriate touching was not a reason to want to vote someone out, I knew I wasn't going to want to continue watching them play.

Survivor at its lowest
grlym-4684917 November 2019
I have not missed a single episode of survivor's 39 seasons. For the most part, I am drawn more by the sporting challenges and the castaway survival aspects that also draw me in with movies and shows if the same theme. However, instead of doing gameplay, gameplay is nearly the most active verb being used to describe the show and used on the show.

In internet blogs and webpages , information about survivors misgivings to women has run 20 years with few exceptions. Previous sexual harassment was glossed over. And women contestants told what to wear, however impractical for sporting challenges for the sake of ratings. And the statistics of women success to the end is far from equal. So maybe this is a real depiction of society. Other countries versions of survivor are interesting to watch. Women win far more often. And their view on how to play and display the game are bit to the left of the US version.

This season has been disturbing as we watch sexual harassment continue by Dan. Then producers give us a double episode that is painful to watch

is CBS trying to raise the issue about the topic of Me 2? Or are they exploiting women and this situation for profit? I really can't say at the moment. And since CBS controls how these people are edited and shown on TV, it's hard to say we know the whole story. But if we take show at its word, here is what CBS showed, condoned, and painfully raked its audience through:

1. Dan, inappropriately touched several women. Whether he realized it or not. And maybe his livelihood is at risk from this behavior and tv airing the way they did. 2. The victims cared more about winning than doing what was right. Shown both by their vote, but also their words on the show. Even when supported by producers and tribal, the victims chose to use the situation for their advantage than correcting the scene. Voting off me 2 supporters instead of alleged offender 3. Both women who were victims and and not, used situation for gameplay. This season has been filled with "after school specials" with people touting their high morals. But then trampling their values for a couple more days in this game. Very sad to watch. Left a bad taste in my mouth. 4. Producers acted way too late. Private conversations early on could have saved Dans professional reputation and given him a wake up moment to correct behavior. And the women to know that they are protected. Instead, Jeff probst, grilled Dan and others for what appeared as ratings. He was in a position of power and abused it within the game to force confessions and an obvious agenda for the network (while misguided, maybe for highlighting wrongs of society) While Dan was wrong, you could see how pained he was. And embarrassed. Flogging on tv for millions was gutting to him and not the right way to handle it. 5. We now know the price of allowing sexual harassment. It is the chance to win a million dollars and ratings. Because if CBS wanted to correct the situation correctly. They could have. Jeff talks directly to us for 5 minutes to say what happened (by what their lawyers allow him to say), what action they took, and how they will work in it in the future. We would not have been surprised by it. We saw all of it happening in all prior episodes. This season has been so unsettling. I watch tv to step away from the world to relax. Not to see how both people and CBS can mistreat women and Show how badly they mishandle taking care of the situation. CBS has all the power (selecting castaways, dripping castaways, Jeff Probst words that are chosen have direct impact on player outcomes both in the game and outside, and also to millions of viewers). And they have a ton of time to do this. They edited thousands of hours to show us a scenario. Then chose to not act until too late

I hope the people in real life heal. But I also hope the show does better on all accounts from here on out

The worst episode of Survivor ever
Splarke2214 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The way this Dan "situation" has been handled is BEYOND disgusting and messy. The fact he's still in the game and allowed to continue is outrageous. Missy & Elizabeth pretending to not be affected by Dan's behavior and shutting down Janet/Kellee the way they did in order to further themselves in the game is so damn infuriating and appalling. Everyone else's (especially Aaron's) dismissal of Dan's harassment of the women just shows how stupid some people are. This episode was a scary reflection of how the real world is.

The only redeeming thing was Jamal and Janet. Jamal is such an eloquent, bright individual and I loved what he had to say at Tribal. As for Janet, her sticking up for the women only to be shot down just hurt my soul and made my blood boil at the same time.

Just an absolutely awful episode showcasing how awful the majority of the people on this season are. Kellee and Jamal going home has made me not even want to continue watching now.

Worst episode ever
vini_candia12 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's not because Kellee was eliminated. It is for the edition building a female empowerment arc, minority talk venue, dialogue for minority issues, and in the merge episode we see participants using harassment to advance the game. It's about production revealing Dan's acts to the point of building a shelter just for him. It's about Elizabeth stating with all the words she lied about the whole situation and all the other participants ignoring everything. I most likely will not continue with the season, there is no way this season with this group of people will result in anything more fun, even more with this production. Janet, Noura and Karishma are the only people still worth watching.

And that's why men continue.........
larosaj-2666614 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a guy and I'm always very aware of how to not touch women inappropriately. Dan is either a moron and unaware or knows exactly what he's doing. I'm betting on the latter. Missy and Elizabeth staying quiet and not saying anything while throwing Janet under the bus makes them disgusting enablers. Dan should have been kicked of. Jamal and Janet were decent people that got shafted by some of the others. Really angered by the whole scenario.

I have seen every episode of Survivor up to this point and I'm devastated by the way the majority of the players handled a very important and real issue.

Too much real world spoils the fantasy
dave-7768816 November 2019
So there's a survivor who makes some of the women uncomfortable with unwanted touching. Is this gameplay or are people genuinely threatened? In a game where deceit is the rule rather than exception, it's impossible to say. At the end of the day some players use it as gameplay, while some others don't (and get burned for it). Deceit being central Survivor gameplay, it is really tough to sort out the truth.

2 things bug me about this episode. Whatever was going on was openly discussed between the Survivors on the beach and in tribal. Apparently producers spoke with survivors one on one about it as well. If this was a real situation and not gameplay, why on earth is that guy still in the game? It would seem everyone had an opportunity to voice their concerns in a non-threatening venue.

Second - and the big one - Survivor producers blew this up sky high for 2 episodes. At the end of the day they did nothing about it, just a boatload of scenes throwing shade at the Survivor with a questionable behavior. His behavior has been highlighted for several episodes, building up to this mess of a merge. The producers could have nipped this in the bud but instead let it drag the show into the gutter. It makes for some really uncomfortable viewing. I feel bad for the women who felt threatened, for the people who were voted off (the least creepy of the group), and for Dan who is going to have a tough time resuming normal life after an avoidable character assassination, and I'm disgusted with the players who used this issue as gameplay.

Ruined the Players for me
kittyasmr2 January 2021
Either those girls got harassed by Dan and didnt want to confront it. Or Dan was creepy but not to the point of harassment and they lied because they could. And they all thought it was a good idea to vote out the girl, who brought it to light. Or ruin Dan's name. The Blur of their actions reinforced the stereotype that you can't just believe women on claims of harassment. I can't seem to let it go and won't countinue the season. I have no favorite, and I don't believe any of them deserver the money.
