An in-joke about Jim Nabors private life?
scorchedear7 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
There's a funny scene inside a car during the double-dating I wonder wasn't a sly in-joke. The quartet get inside Sgt. Carter's car; Carter assumes his girlfriend Bunny would naturally want to sit in the front seat next to him, instead he double-takes to find Gomer in the front seat next to him. Carter naturally had put his arm around the seat expecting Bunny to be there. Bunny, impatient for them to get going, yells at Carter to start driving and, noting Carter's arm around Gomer, implores Carter to keep his hands to himself (!). The look on Carter's face is priceless as he realizes he had his arm around Gomer and not his girlfriend Bunny, and recoils instantly.

The casting of the girlfriends (Bunny, LouAnn) by the makers of this show is spot-on, especially in this episode as Bunny and Carter discover they really are best suited to each other.

Outclassed By Gomer Pyle
sambase-3877323 December 2021
Gomer Pyle treats his "best girl" Miss Lou Ann Poovie like a queen and that is noticed by Sgt. Carter's long time girlfriend Miss Bunny Wilson and she wonders why her man is so rude and thoughtless and "uncouth". She tells Carter that he could learn from Gomer and that's the wrong thing to say to Sgt. Carter! He rejects that notion completely. They have a big blow up and break up and now it's up to Gomer and Miss Lou Ann Poovie to try and get them back together.

Lots of funny gags in this episode. Some wonderful dialog and funny lines. "What am I, a fullback for the Green Bay Packers?!" shouts Carter's girlfriend. Very funny line. This is a well written episode and very well acted by everybody involved. One of the other reviewers mentioned a gag in a car where Sgt. Carter puts his arm around Gomer the way he would his girlfriend! When he realizes what he's doing he recoils in shock and horror. That's very funny and well played. Overall a very fun episode to watch and it breezes by fast. Good stuff.

Lou Ann Poovie

Lou Ann Poovie is so groovy, I wish I could meet a gal like her in real life. "Well, maybe we helped a little, Gomer, just a little".
