Bros meanwhile wondered when would they be famous. It lasted for a brief moment. The female audience for boy bands can be so fickle. Turtles.

Over in the Maine Road ground. Man City fans went bananas. Inflatable fruit were all the rage. Nowadays the crowd at the Etihad stadium get elated by winning actual trophies. Still they were a better gimmick than stick on Garfield's that appeared in some cars.

The House music scene that kicked off in the mid 1980s morphed into Acid House. If you thought it was about drugs, you were probably right. Huge raves with smiley tablets, no wonder you needed to keep drinking water.

Richard & Judy became household name, partly because Richard Madeley was accused of shoplifting at his local Tesco's. He was found not guilty. His fate is still uncertain for crimes against television.

There was no mention of doping scandals in the Seoul Olympics of 1988. Good news for Ben Johnson.
