Grateful for the effort, but some details were wrong
supermaggie14 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I am grateful that a US show adrresses the topic of bombs in Germany who were dropped on millions of civilians and historical and cultural sites not just in Karlsruhe but also Wuerzburg, Dresden, etcetc, that destroyed so much and were never mentioned afterwards, but are still causing massive troubles and damage and cost not just once in a while, but pretty much on a weekly basis in today's Germany and therefore the Germans do not need US Americans to identify and help with the threat (and I never heard of help offers from US American authorities anyway), because for the German rescue teams this is pretty much a routine procedure - but do not worry, and do not bother trying to pronounce the cities correctly you mindlessly drop bombs on (there were no Hitler railyards etc. in Dresden or Wuerzburg by the way, just innocent victims), you just pull the trigger and feel you did the right thing, not just in Germany but all over the world. But: thanks for addressing this, I just wanted to add some details which were not shown correctly.

This was abysmal

Warning: Spoilers
Normally I like this show, but this time it was just bad. First of all, why would the Phoenix even be called to such a rescue site? They are twelve hours away (and that is just the flight). Also German civil services can handle something like this by themselves. Then there are the uniforms and cars for German police and civil services. They look nothing like the ones shown in this episode, even cheap carnival costumes look better. And of course nobody from the Phoenix wears any protective gear when going into a collapsed building, not even helmets. Are they afraid of ruining their hairdo or what? Then there is the undetonated bomb. Under a building that was constructed after WWII in an area that was a known target for an air raid. And they didn't bother checking for bombs first. Ok, not impossible, but highly unlikely. But instead of doing the reasonable thing and get an expert (or more than one) down there they try to get the bomb out of the building. Yes, German civil services have experts for bomb disposal (the Kampfmittelräumdienst). The entire Bozer/Taylor subplot is unrealistic too. Why would they have to break into a museum to get a model of that bomb? German civil services already have construction plans for every type of bomb that was dropped on Germany during WWII (they have to dismantle them constantly), I am pretty sure you can also find them online. Then there is the ending. Please don't give us a Mac/Riley relationship. Get Mac and Desi back together if you have to, but please no Mac/Riley.

I'm a fan but this was a terrible episode.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to keep this short. How can you go into a collapsing building without proper gear? On a different note, it's good to see the writers exploring a relationship between Macgyver and Riley.

Really dumb episode
bagaran13 February 2022
This episode was clearly meant for an American audience so they can feel responsible and helpful. Unexploded WWII bombs are found in Germany all the time.

The Germans don't need a MacGyver or any other American agent to dispose of them. They can deal with that in a matter of hours all by themselves.

Guess the writers couldn't be arsed to do any research.

Patronising and unrealistic

Warning: Spoilers
By far the worst episode. So unrealistic and patronising. If I was German I'd be miffed - they need 3 American agents to come and help with a search and rescue mission in a German town??? The German rescue workers are portrayed as helpless droids. Silly storyline. Really disappointed.

Still amused but not for the right reasons

Warning: Spoilers
Roughly 5500 blind shells are defused in Germany every year :) Without the "help" from US American intelligence companies. I love the new MacGyver but sometimes the lack of fact checking is hard to swallow. The police uniforms, the cars, the fire trucks nothing looks like any used in Germany. I am used to hit and miss props but to get it completely wrong took effort. The goofs are plenty and the props are abysmal otherwise it is a sound episode.

Implausible!!
tigiecat30 March 2020
Do the producers of this show regard their viewers as ignorant? Who goes into a wrecked building without masks, hard hats, protective gear etc. ? And the only place they can research the bomb is in a museum? The are no plans available at the DOD? Pay some attention to detail please.
