Better than Anticipated
killerindrag16 August 2020
Trailer does not do the show justice and might be discouraging to some.

I really enjoyed this episode and was glad I had 2 more episodes available to stream.

I am big English football fan, and I liked the small references to the EPL.

I'm pretty sure this show is based on Crystal Palace from the EPL and is partially filmed at the grounds.

This is a feel good show for sure, and is much needed during these trying times.

I wasn't buying all the hype...but...
bmiller5925 June 2023
I resisted watching Ted Lasso, all the hype, come on now, but the pilot was better than I anticipated. So here it is, almost 3-years since this pilot first showed and I'm watching Ted Lasso.

I enjoyed it, and am watching episode two as I write my review. The characters are already developed and can't wait to see how they all interact and evolve.

What really jumps out at me is how positive and supportive that Ted Lasso is, I don't want to see him come down, but I'll see.

Coach is great, you don't hear him much but when Ted Lasso asks him to pitch in, he's to the point.

I think I'm going to enjoy this and as I am watching episode 2 am I going to binge this to catch up?

Since when was England this beautiful?
lovemichaeljordan2 October 2022
There's no way this is filmed in England. Everything looks so nice, clean and modern. The weather is beautiful, it's warm and it's sunny. The pilot looks great - everything from the costume design to the sets are expertly crafted. This episode makes me want to visit England.

It's a great pilot. Every character is introduced expertly and we understand what kind of person everyone is. Ted is just a terrific and optimistic dude and the other characters seem fleshed out aswell. The mix of drama and comedy is so far very well done. An engaging and interesting first episode.

Making each episode about 30 minutes long is a breath of fresh air. It's mentally easier to watch an episode this short and it's easier to fit into one's daily schedule.

Pilot Warning: Spoilers
I've heard good things about this show which is naturally why I have began to watch it. The first episode was funny, the usual commentary on British-American differences. Not a huge fan of how the United Kingdom is just called "England" in every senario, but Ted does ask "How many countries are in this country" at one point to try to make up for it.

The football (and pardon my French): "Yobs" are portrayed accurately enough. People like to take things too seriously, no matter how insignificant that thing might be. Now I do not believe football to be insignificant, it brings joy and entertainment to millions. I do however feel that the use of so many foul words, even if they are the kind of thing British football hooligans might utter took away from the niceness of Lasso. Every positive feeling one gets from his presence is immediately dashed against the rocks by some horrible statement from the Owner lady or one of the Journalists and the "Yob" cronies. Nevermind however, I believe the series will only improve from here as it has got an impressive IMDb score.

I also found it interesting to see what companies Apple likes, clearly Lynx, Nike, and themselves (Ted has an iPhone). I'm sure there are others I missed.

There were also some jokes right at the beginning that I felt weren''t really funny at all, pretty much everything said about the rude ex-husband at the beginning wasn't funny, or even witty, it was the kind of typical modern comedy studios think people like, and maybe they do, but I most certainly did not.

On the whole however it was a good start, not the best Pilot episode I've ever seen but good nonetheless. The best part was natually Ted Lasso himself with Nathan in second.

Loving the vibe that this show gives already!!

Ted is already portrayed as a deep character who I think is a rather jolly old character but suffers from marital issues? Acting is just spotless and very funny too.

Plot is very creative too. I can't wait to see how it all untangles itself.

Super excited for this show~!

Interesting Concept
chunkylefunga5 December 2020
Pilot was alright, prob wouldn't have made it a premier league team as you 100% wouldn't get away with it but a Championship team would have been alright.

Nice to see Richmond being put on the map, even if they only use Richmond Green for 99% of their outside shots :D

9.45/10, Already This Good?
dcdude-2698819 August 2023
I enjoyed this episode alot. I am already most likely going to start recommending this show to the athletic boys at my school since most of them watch All American. Anyways, my favorite characters in this episode were Ted, Rebecca, and Coach Beard. My favorite things about this episode were the Dialogue, the storyline, and the pacing, especially the pacing. This isn't perfect or anything, but this is definitely very funny, enjoyable, and well-written. I mostly love the side characters in this show so far, and I am excited to see what this show has in store for me later on in the series. I am pretty sure there will be lots of 10's that will be rated for me personally since I already rated this episode very high.

Surprisingly good

Warning: Spoilers
Im neither a fan of Football nor American-Football so I was surprised by how the series managed to catch my attention.

I have some issues with the plot though, for example, why does the Trainer had to be an American-Football Trainer? Wouldn't an regular Trainer who is corrupt/incompetent fulfill basically the same goal?

There was also a badly executed science where Nathan was intimidated by Rebecca in an absolute extraordinary, almost comical way to wave off such an reaction without talking, even in an Comedy Setting, is unreasonable.

Im Late to this Show but I'm glad I have the whole Season ready to watch right now.

Class meets ass
xmasdaybaby196610 June 2023
It was a watchable start and lusty Leo Hannah Waddingham is most watchable but it wasn't a laugh out loud pilot episode.

Maybe if is aimed at American audiences because there was little in the way of British humour here.

The joke about Americans trying to get in an old British mini car (esther than the modern BMW version) was done by Tom Selleck, Ted Dansen and Steve Guttenberg a long time ago.

The show seems to be based on the premise of two countries split by a mutual language which, again, has been done so many times.

Hopefully, the standard will stay high if not improve and perhaps even include some jokes for the UK viewers too.

On the plus side, at least it was filmed in the UK unlike many UK TV dramas these days.

I will Continue to watch and just hope it's not a one trick pony.

The main character doesn't interest me so much, the pilot had some nice jokes here and there but it didn't really grasp my attention...

Warning: Spoilers
As a fan of soccer and comedy I expected to enjoy this, but it was a little underwhelming. Recreating Major League is not an idea I think will work.

There were some funny moments, but I just think this act will tire quickly.

Fairy tale
JustHavingALook3 May 2023
So I decided to finally watched the epic Ted Lasso, a good 3 years after it was released, to see what the hype was about.

It's a neat fairy tale choke full of good vibes, dad jokes, cliche US-UK misunderstanding. 30 min runtime is a smart decision for this kind of genre, I actually felt refreshed and optimistic.

Excellent casting: blonde lady boss is my favorite together with the young indian boy (janitor/handyman). Reason: at least from this 1st episode they are the characters who show their values and wants and it seems they might have some kind of development arc.

Ted Lass instead... I don't see how it could change whatsoever since the whole premise is how cool Ted Lasso is... hence: the whole show will get boring eventually. The risk is that they will write a script around some funny gag.

Also: the whole thing of the blonde lady wanting to destroy the club reputation so to make her ex husband suffer is so unrealistic it makes me cringe.

Pilot
Prismark1028 March 2023
Jason Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso. An American football coach who has been hired to manage a middling English Premier League soccer team AFC Richmond.

This is a fish out of water comedy. Kansas Ted has flown over with coach Beard (Brendan Hunt.) They seem to have no qualms about the challenge they face. It seems they know little about soccer.

They are also ignorant that the team owner Rebecca Welton, who inherited the club after her divorce settlement. Wants Richmond to fail. That is why she hired Ted Lasso in the first place.

The pilot lacks laughs but has a lot of heart. That is courtesy of Sudeikis of Hunt. Both of them developed the show and it looks like that they have a gameplan.

Tentative Start
Hitchcoc20 February 2024
Since I already know that this has become quite the phenomenon, I guess I expected a little more in the pilot. A successful second tier football coach is handed a job as a soccer coach for a classic English team. There are some real downers for me. First of all, the guy doesn't have even a rudimentary knowledge of the game. He doesn't even know there are countries like Wales, Ireland, and Scotland. This would make him an utterly stupid man. He also has an exaggerated southern drawl, and an insufferable personality. It turns out he is being hired to destroy the team because the new owner is seeking revenge on her philandering ex-husband. He is already hated by his fans and by the fans. I know this is going to get better, but this is a weak episode.

Not Funny or Intriguing
carteros3 October 2021
Very surface level pg-13 humor that I didn't enjoy and a poor attempt at making me interested in these characters and what is going to happen next.
