Despite some drawbacks, "Swimming with the Sharks" is a must watch for Season 21

The twists and turns of this episode were fantastic, and made for a great departure from the classic SVU formula. The ending, however, left me feeling a bit empty-handed. The script just had too many characters, I think, and it was impossible to develop them all properly within 45 minutes. We didn't really get to know the villain(s) or truly understand their motivation. Too many people with hidden motives and not enough time to explore them all.

The strong point of this episode was Luna's turbulent character arc, brought to life with a gut-punch by Radha Mitchell's phenomenal performance. She's a wealthy, intelligent, attractive woman, the CEO of a fast-growing business whose purported mission is to empower women. But the strengths that have led her to success may also be her deepest character flaws. This eventually triggers a chain of events (spurred by other nefarious forces) that culminates in an archetypal descent into madness.

(To its credit, the script doesn't explicitly pathologize her behavior, but I'm unofficially diagnosing her with Histrionic Personality Disorder.)

Overall, despite a poorly fleshed-out conclusion, the episode stands out in Season 21 for its unique plot line and great guest actors. If you only watch a handful of episodes from this season, "Swimming with the Sharks" should be one of them.

Surprises along the 2way

Barba showing up means Stabler is going to eventually. This episode brings a situation which most likely has happened or is in the midst of happening, ripped from the headlines! Yay Dick Wolf and the entire cast for another epic episode and Kudos to Benson, we heart you Olivia!!!

Swimming with the Sharks

Warning: Spoilers
This could have been a good episode given the subject matter, but it got way too messed up and taken in too many directions, the same mistake the program often does.

Keep the plot simple and the episodes will be much better.

For the story about mobbing and abuse in companies, you can watch 12s 18e Bully.

Could have been much better

Warning: Spoilers
I hate it when they start the plot one way and then change it half way through. Simple storyline is always better! I thought we're finally going to get to see a powerful female taking advantage of her young employees and not just the usual white powerful man doing that. I also had no sympathy for her and to be honest, I feel that a lot lately. I wish they would write (and cast) more interesting and sympathetic characters. We get the point that no one has a right to hurt a woman just because she's drinking/partying/doing drugs /dressing provocatively but we're seeing it too much on the show. They need to go back to the old SVU seasons when we actually cared about the victims. I'm Sorry for the old fashion approach but women should be more careful no matter who or were they are. Is it fair? No! But that's the real world.

This show is becoming very disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
It seems like the writers of this show either can't believe or won't believe that females can be perpatrators of sexual crimes against males. In this episode they had the opportunity to have a male victim with a female perp. What do they do? Produce another show that ends with some guy raping the poor defenseless woman. Very disappointing. Maybe they should take a look at some of these school teachers that are getting pregnant by their 14 and 15-year old students. Or, how about talking to those women in prison for murdering their children, or murdering their husbands, or taking a teenage girl across state lines. The world wants equal rights for women when it comes to everything else but not when it comes to being depicted as a sexual deviant.

What a pathetic episode. Please take a look at modern use of Forensic Science.

Where?
johnnyboygrant17 May 2021
Where is all this oppression of women coming from? Never in my life have I experienced or witness anything of the sort. So... women becoming sexually promiscuous is the way to get power back? I'd rather be oppressed.
