“Truth in advertising” awards are few and far between. Assuming someone somewhere is still giving out “truth in advertising” awards, The Rookies (Su ren te gong), an international co-production co-written and directed by Alan Yuen, certainly wouldn’t get one. For its Western release, the advertising for The Rookies, including the trailer and poster, place longtime Resident Evil action-star Milla Jovovich front-and-center, towering over lesser, less significant mortals. In a film pushing the two-hour mark, Jovovich receives roughly 10-15-minutes total screen time. Disappointment will surely follow and not just for Jovovich’s hardcore fans. Anyone expecting even a modest respect for the rules of storytelling, character, or physics will find themselves on the wrong side of the disappointment divide. Not that...

There’s a fight sequence almost two thirds of the way through Atomic Blonde that I’m convinced is going to go down as an all time classic. It will rock your socks, plain and simple. The whole movie actually is pretty strong when it comes to action sequences. That being said, the real selling point is Charlize Theron, who turns in her most kick ass performance to date. She’s truly spectacular here, showing that what she did in Mad Max: Fury Road (we can pretend things like Aeon Flux never happened) wasn’t a one off. This week, the film hits theaters and should delight those of you who wish more women would get to kick some ass. Trust me, ass is kicked here, to say the least. Discussing the plot of this movie is kind of dumb, since it makes no sense, but here goes nothing. Told in flashbacks,...

It’s hard to think that this show could get any more quintessentially Flash after, in the last two weeks, the gang travelling to a parallel earth to fight a gladiator match in a city populated by sentient gorillas, then having the gorillas invade our Earth and being fought off by three super speedsters and half of Justice League Detroit. But then you get Barry, Jessie, and Wally training to open this week’s episode. Any combination of the two of them is incredibly fun to watch. Fembot Lucy was everything. And that kiss, you guys! 'Nuff said.
How do Michelle Lovretta and her writing team manage to cram so much sci-fi goodness into one episode? Every week I say, "That was my favorite Killjoys episode." This week with Killjoys Season 2 Episode 6, it's absolutely true.
Tons of new info was revealed. Yeah this was a good one!
This episode's opening echoed the nasty Skeevers of the last installment, only slightly more fun. For a moment, I had no idea who the hooded dude was though he sounded like D'avin. "You gave me acid?" D'av asked the old trickster.
Wasn't it hilarious the way the old fart took off thinking he'd outsmarted a pair of Killjoys? Good thing little brother was around and had a plan. Those brotherly moments between Luke and Aaron are super believable. They're a blast to watch!

Good ol' D'avin said it best early in the episode, "Missed you bastards!"
Luckily for us, this is no green-goo induced dream and Killjoys is finally back for another run. I am thrilled we get to spend another season with this incredible cast and crew. I can't even imagine not getting a third season, so I'm starting the #RenewKilljoys campaign early.
I didn't see the twists of Killjoys Season 2 Episode 1 coming, which is part of the fun.
Let me start by saying I loved that this installment picked up right where we left off, and that we didn't spend three episodes searching for D'avin. At just 10 episodes per season, there's really no time to waste.
While the tighter storytelling does away with any filler episodes, it also means the season will be over far too quickly. Take Game of Thrones for example, we've got to wait a year now to return to Westeros.

The Flash returns to high expectations. Can its second season maintain the fun, action and drama of the first?
This review contains spoilers.
2.1 The Man Who Saved Central City
This year, The Flash is in the unenviable position of trying to capitalise on a first season that not only rose to the top of an increasingly dense pile of superhero television, but also surpassed its parent show over the course of 23 episodes. It was one of the undisputable winners of the 2014-15 season, and expectations are incredibly high.
Can it maintain the quality or, better still, build on it to become something not just fun, diverting and occasionally emotional but also something more? There’s always been potential for that, for it to be as much fun for a wide audience as it is for the hard-core comic book and television fans.
We start where we left off, with the fun,...

"Not too bad, if I say so myself..." If I may take a quote from this year's Best Musical winner as I went 20/24 with my predictions for this year's 2015 Tony Awards. Undoubtedly, the two big winners of the night were the musical Fun Home and the play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, both of which took home five awards including honors for their leading men, directors, and, of course, Best Musical/Play. Right behind those two was the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, which picked up four awards, including Best Revival and for their long overdue leading lady Kelli O'Hara, who easily gave the best speech of the night (including dancing off the stage). I may predicted Tony co-host Kristin Chenoweth over her, but I am so happy to be wrong. yt id="MneMh2c-y0M" width="640" And what about Chenoweth...

The writers of Scandal haven't been afraid to get political this season, and Thursday night was no exception.
Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) took on a military rape case, and the episode crackled with her passion for justice. Plus, resident torture experts Huck (Guillermo Díaz) and Quinn (Katie Lowes) tried to get Russell (Brian White) to reveal the meaning of Foxtail, a code word the Gladiators knew only from his call with Rowan (Joe Morton).
Read on to learn whether they succeeded – and for more on the final-act twist that set the show for a sure-to-be-insane finale.

This Week in TV News is a compliment to the Week in Review feature, which will now be focused on film news.
AMC has guaranteed two seasons to the prequel companion series of The Walking Dead, as per THR. The announcement was made earlier this week, and comes as somewhat unsurprising news. The Walking Dead continues to be one of the channel’s highest rated shows, with its popularity showing no signs of waning as the show’s fifth season rolls along. In addition, AMC has found similar commercial and critical success with Better Call Saul, its new series that is itself a spinoff of Breaking Bad.
There’s no set title for the series as of yet, and working titles have included Fear The Walking Dead and Cobalt. The first season, much like the show that spawned this spinoff, will consist of six episodes, with creator Robert Kirkman working...

The 2015 Grammy Award winners have been coming fast and furious for nearly three hours. That's the strange thing about Grammy night. Almost all of the awards are given out beforehand, so the actual telecast features only a dozen awards (give or take) and a wide assortment of performance. Follow along and join the conversation as I live-blog all of those performances, plus all of the awards, even though I have no real opinions on the inevitable winners and losers. It should be fun! 8:00 p.m. Et. "Madam Secretary" and "The Good Wife" will be back next week! 8:00 p.m. Thank you, LL, for reminding me of the things we were talking about after last year's Grammys. Thanks to "Fargo" and "American Horror Story: Coven," FX had a huge Emmy nomination haul two weeks ago. And with "Fargo" leading the way, the network still has some of the best reviewed shows on TV. However, "Tyrant" and "The Strain" both drew mixed reviews, as did the comedies "Married" and "You Are The Worst." Fxx is still struggling to find an identity as it awaits a massive influx of "Simpsons" repeats. And just last week, FX announced that it would no longer be providing L+Sd ratings for reporters, preferring the fuller picture of Live+3 and Live+7 numbers. So let's just say that FX President John Landgraf will have plenty to talk about on Monday (July 21) morning at the Television Critics Association press tour... Anchor Bay Entertainment will be bringing Trust Me, a dark comedy-drama which The Avengers actor Clark Gregg wrote, directed and starred in, to DVD on August 26th, and We Got This Covered is pleased to be able to exclusively unveil the DVD box art for the movie.
Trust Me stars Gregg as a down-on-his-luck agent for Hollywood child stars who, despite his good heart, has a bad habit of letting his mouth get away with him, which means he often loses clients to his slick arch-nemesis Aldo Shocklee (Sam Rockwell). After stumbling across a 13-year-old acting prodigy (Saxon Sharbino), he finds himself on the precipice of closing a massive deal which would work to catapult both himself and his client onto the A-list. However, as he continues to work with the young actress, he becomes troubled by signs that she may not be as innocent as initial appearances would suggest.

Killed off in "The Avengers," and brought back to life for "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Clark Gregg hasn't had much time to rest from his superhero duties, but he did manage enough time to knock out a sophomore directorial effort with "Trust Me." And after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, it's now headed to theaters and the first trailer has arrived. Featuring a pretty solid ensemble including Sam Rockwell, Amanda Peet, Allison Janney, William H. Macy, Molly Shannon and Felicity Huffman, the Hollywood satire follows a down and out agent who discovers a 13 year-old who could be the next big thing. And as he navigates bringing her to the limelight, he realizes she may not be everything she appears to be. If you haven't already (and you're over 18), I highly recommend that you drop whatever your doing right now and go see Choke. The directorial debut of Clark Gregg - best known as the beloved and dearly missed Agent Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - the film is a terrific adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's book of the same name and features some awesome performances from cast members like Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston, Kelly Macdonald and Brad William Henke. Unfortunately Choke didn't exactly explode at the box office and it's been four years since Gregg was behind the camera, but now he's ready for his sophomore effort and has already brought a great group of actors together for it. Rockwell, Amanda Peet, Allison Janney, William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, Paul Sparks, Molly Shannon, and Niecy Nash have all signed up for parts in Trust Me, the new dark comedy being...

In 2009, Eric McCormack returned to series television in Trust Me, a show that co-starred Tom Cavanagh. It lasted just 13 episodes but tonight, McCormack returns to the cable channel in a new TV show, Perception. Will it outlast Trust Me or will it be cancelled after one season as well?
In this new television series, he plays an eccentric neuroscience professor with paranoid schizophrenia, Doctor Daniel Pierce. Daniel's recruited by the FBI to use his knowledge of human behavior to help solve crimes, often with unusual results. The show also stars Rachael Leigh Cook, Arjay Smith, Kelly Rowan, and LeVar Burton.
Perception premieres tonight on TNT. Is it worth your time? Here's what the critics are saying:

Nicolas McCarthy's The Pact, which debuted at Sundance as a short some time ago, had its feature length premiere at Sundance just the other night. Agnes Bruckner (Venom, Vacancy 2, The Woods, Kill Theory), Sam Ball ("The Event"), Haley Hudson ("Ghost Whisperer", Killer Pad) and Kathleen Rose Perkins ("Lie to Me," "Trust Me") and Casper Van Dien also star in the ghost story said to be in the tradition of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, Dario Argento's Suspiria and Hideo Nakata's Ringu, "as a woman struggles to come to grips with her past in the wake of her mother's death, an unsettling presence emerges in her childhood home." While word of mouth on the film is lukewarm, the clip below actually provides a fairly legit, if obvious scare. Hit the jump to check it out!

One of author Robert Ludlum’s final novels may be developed on to the big screen. Deadline is reporting Universal Pictures, Captivate Entertainment and Ludlum Entertainment may move forward to adapt “The Janson Directive” as a film. The novel was published a year after Ludlum’s death. They hired writer John Hlavin to write the screen adaptation. Hlavin wrote the screenplay for the upcoming sequel “Underworld Awakening.” He wrote scripts for television episodes for “Trust Me,” and “The Shield.” In this Ludlum’s spy novel, the story is about Paul Janson, an ex-Navy Seal and a former member of the covert agency Consular Operations. A mysterious woman hired Janson to save her boss, the Nobel Peace Laureate billionaire Peter Novak, from a militant organization that wants to kill Novak. However, the rescue mission tragically went wrong and Janson was framed for the murder. Janson would then uncover a certain government conspiracy that may topple governments.

The Bataan Death March … With Chocolate
Another Television Critics Association Summer Tour is over and this was probably the most memorable one I’ve ever done, for a whole host of reasons.
Another critic once described the press tour (which usually lasts for two solid weeks with no breaks at all) as the Bataan Death March With Cocktails. Since I’m not much of a drinker that isn’t true for me. Instead, for me it’s a death march with chocolate since the cable and broadcast networks were constantly tempting us with all kinds of chocolates, from marshmallows covered with dark chocolate to chocolate covered strawberries to all kinds of fancy fou-fou chocolate desserts.
ABC even sent a box of amazing chocolate chip cookies to my room where they begged me to eat them! Talk about evil.
As I said, this TCA was very memorable. The day I arrived in Los Angeles,...
