"Ranchlands" was truly awful. There's nothing good in it: the story is bad, the acting is terrible, and the overdone storyline misses the mark by far. This film is a disappointing rehash of tired clichés and fails to bring anything new or engaging to the table. Save your time and skip this one entirely.

I cannot fathom that this movie was made by the same people who made Redwoods

"Ranchlands" was truly awful. There's nothing good in it: the story is bad, the acting is terrible, and the overdone storyline misses the mark by far. The pacing is painfully slow, the dialogue is cringe-worthy, and the characters are one-dimensional. This film is a disappointing rehash of tired clichés and fails to bring anything new or engaging to the table. Even the cinematography is uninspired. Save your time and skip this one entirely; it's not worth the watch.

This is a story of one man who comes back to his family after coming out. He was thrown out of the house by his Dad who is now dead. He hopes for a better connection now. There is a mother, a brother and a ranch hand. One can almost write the story oneself. But sometimes the old and tried stories have a new connection when brought up to date. A number of familiar gay tropes appear. But it is never time to drop these and move on. The hurt in a lot of family's lives is too fresh. In this case the familiar becomes comforting and supportive of everyone caught up in old ideas and outdated prejudices.
