Warning: Spoilers
This 4th episode of the show perhaps smartly works out that it is running out of hospital based storylines (yes, already), so takes a much needed opportunity to try to flesh out the supporting characters a little more.

Unfortunately despite this effort they all still remain as paper thin/standard sitcom character tropes as before, with me not really caring any more about them by the end than I did at the start. I certainly wouldn't want any of them as my Doctor!

Ashley Tisdale's character works far better, and they've done minimal work with it.

Over in the main storyline things work slightly better, though why they have to make the character of Carol so unbearable every time she has a minor win at work I don't know. It's very hard to root for her character.

In Patricia Heaton's sadly cancelled too soon show 'Back to You' there was once a moment where her character danced and sang to 'Mambo No 5'. It was awkward, it was a Mum character trying to be cool. But it was brief and intentionally meant to be awkward. We all moved on.

'Carol's Second Act' feels like that moment stretched to 20 mins an episode. As I've said before - surely this wasn't the best sitcom idea that she had land on her desk?!

Again, fine, amiable enough stuff, but weak.
