Warning: Spoilers
It doesn't take much to set Dennis off on a mission. And when Dennis is on a mission he's a steam roller. After seeing his dad turn out his pockets and spotting some pennies , his father thinks coin collection will harness Dennis's energies into a worthwhile endeavor.

Since Dennis is going to start a penny collection they head over to Mr. Wilson's house for some advice . Mr. Wilson is enjoying himself watching a detective show on the TV, but after letting in Dennis and his dad, Martha shuts off the show just as it is coming to its conclusion.

Thinking a penny collection will keep Dennis busy and out of his hair, Mr. Wilson gives some advice and penny wrappers. You want to find a penny for every year. Mr. Wilson finally believes he has solved his Dennis problem.

Back at home Dennis's parents are explaining to an impatient Dennis on how his penny collection will grow. Since Dennis doesn't get much of a chance to make change, his parents say they will share their change with him

As usual Dennis's enthusiasm on a new project knows no bounds. He's up at 5AM getting a cart together full of Empty bottles from the house ...his father thinking the noise coming from the kitchen is a burgalar startles Dennis, it's 5AM but Dennis is already dressed and ready to head down to Quigleys market...Dennis never sleeps.

Later that day Dennis visits Mr. Wilson on a hunt for used bottles to trade them in for the deposits. He finds a bunch that Mr. Wilson was too lazy to return.

Soon Dennis is retuning his bottles and driving Mr. Quigley crazy. Mr. Quigley gives Dennis 2 rolls of pennies.

Cut to Dennis back at home working on his penny collection, he has penny books with slots where the pennies go. He needs one for every year...but it's not easy because you need old ones.so he is constantly returning his rolls for new ones, Mr. Wilson always seems nearby when Dennis is returning his rolls, each time he gets into more and more trouble, which includes getting his hand stuck in Mr. Quigley's till and getting a traffic ticket...each time he blames Dennis but Dennis being only 7 years old pleads innocence...afterall nobody told Mr. Wilson to stick his hand in mister Quigleys till...to show Dennis not to put his hand in a merchants till....the logic is clear cut.

Finally Dennis and Mr. Wilson get arrested when Dennis decides to mess with an armored car making a delivery at the bank, his suspenders get stuck on the handle of the armored cars back door and Mr. Wilson tries to free him...the armored car driver thinks they are a " kid gang " out to rob the truck.

At the police station , Martha and the Mitchell's arrive to bail out " the gang."

Happy ending : the police let Dennis look through all the pennies collected from the parking meters and Dennis finds some of the "swellest, oldest, dirtiest pennies you ever saw." Dennis generously shares the oldest , one for himself, one for Tommy and one for Mr. Wilson.

Mr. Wilson is delighted to find out that the penny is a ' 1914 D' just what he has been searching for to complete his own penny collection.

It seems that Mr. Wilson will never learn that the kid who never lets him sleep, that always keeps him busy and on his toes...is his good luck charm.

Dennis is now moving on to Nickels....
