Couldn't have ended any other way...
ScoobySnacks663 October 2020
Best TV comedy of the year for me. Laughed, cried and loved every single episode. The season finale didn't disappoint and I'm actually glad I had to wait for it instead of bingeing the entire series in a single go (which I most surely would have). The ending felt more meaningful with the wait between episodes and gave me something to look forward to at the end of the week. Ted's final locker room pep-talk was perfect and it left me immediately yearning for next season. I just wish I could goldfish outta 2020 and start watching Richmond make a comeback in 2021.

This is my favorite series of ALL TIME and you don't even have to like soccer to love it. A consistent series that delivers and delivers and delivers.

Season One Review
southdavid5 January 2021
I put off watching "Ted Lasso" for a long time. I didn't want to watch a show of poorly observed jokes about football or British life, which I what I feared the show would be. When I finally relented, I discovered that, though those elements are a small part of it, really it's a warm hearted and amusing comedy, in the vein of something like "Parks and Recreation".

Having won her husband's prized football team as part of a divorce settlement, Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) sacks the manager and appoints Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) in an attempt to sabotage the first team and get back at her husband. Lasso, who recently found some success and internet fame with a collegiate American Football team, does not know anything about football, a fact that his players and the media crucify him for. However, his earnest attitude and man management skills eventually win him friends and supporters, if not necessarily football matches.

Much like the other characters in this interesting anglo-american hybrid it's hard not to be won over by Ted Lasso. What immediately feels like an almost Ned Flanders-esque caricature begins to be stripped away as Lasso's strategy of unlocking the potential in the players comes to the fore and as the reasons for him taking a job, in a sport he doesn't understand, thousands of miles away from home are made apparent, so the hidden depths of the show are revealed.

Like most quality comedies, it soon becomes an ensemble. Juno Temple wonderfully plays a seemingly vapid It girl, who is aging out of model /trophy girlfriend phaseand the two relationships she has play a big part in the series. Nick Mohammed and Jeremy Swift both play characters that UK audiences will have seen them play before, but both get an opportunity to show their talents to a much larger audience. Mohammed especially is a star on the rise.

Admittedly the actual scenes of football look pretty terrible, and some other aspects of that side of the show, such as the squad visiting a pub near the ground, the fitness levels of some of the rest of the team, allowing journalists unrestricted access to the training ground or celebrating goals in training all feel a little bit erroneous - but it's a comedy that's funny and heartfelt and that's more than enough to forgive those moments.

11 stars
idrincon3 October 2020
I have been reviewing every episode and I am out of words. Really. This is the best comedy to hit tv in ages. So fresh and smart that it is hard to give each episode less than 10 stars. This episode in particular is an 11! You were expecting the happy ending, and it wasn't, but it is... probably the happiest!

Not a sad end to the season. A promise of good things to come. " Walk on, walk on with hope in your hearts .....". Top series and season finale. Bring on Season 2!

Surprisingly clever ending.

Warning: Spoilers
My one main critique was the football and stadium stuff didn't look great and continuity and realism didn't feel important. I think the stadium stuff is OK as long as football logic is there to. This show will appeal to anyone but I'm glad it's not at the expense of football. Its inclusive for everyone.

I didn't see a sad ending, I saw a team rightly relegated and showed great human qualities, dropping down gives Roy another season to I hope. I actually think this can work wonders as if they're getting positive results I'm really curious how they can add the layers to create the level of emotion in this season.

It's not perfect but it's not far off. There's alot you can learn from this show that goes beyond entertainment and its a lesson alot of people need.

The Perfect Combination of Heartbreak and Hope
dalanwhitaker30 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The final episode of Lasso's first season is a triumph *spoilers ahead* The show deftly walks the line between realism and comedy as Lasso's squad fails to secure a spot in the Premier League. I wouldn't have believed it possible to feel so hopeful and happy at the end of a season that culminated in a heartbreaking defeat. Truly, before I started the episode I thought to myself: "There's no way they can make this episode good AND have them lose this game." Yet they did. The character development and resolution somehow managed to justify the surprising twists and turns. Rebecca's decision to keep Ted was entirely justified by her redemption in the previous episode. How could she fire a man who had come so close to winning and had just days before forgiven her for her extremely selfish actions? Overall, this was an excellent finish for all the characters. Particularly Ted and Jaime.

The Hope That Kills You

Warning: Spoilers
The show consistently improved week to week and went out with a bang here.

Not a feel good moment, but a feel good story here. A well-done finale, but I wonder if we will actually see AFC Richmond in the English League Championsip next season or if they'll skip that and go back to the Premier League when the show returns.

Good But..!
MohaammedHassan8 October 2020
Dont get me wrong here i liked most if not all of the episodes and that drama and human connections in every and each one of them but.. i just think they should improve the prespectives that is related to football in the field and dressing rooms, in the early episodes it was not the highlight so i was not bothered, but really just imagining that that would actually happen in an actual match in THE PREMIER LEAGUE is just hilariously dissapointing. More work equals more realistic outcome equals less cheesy sequences! but great ending to that great ride. Looking forward for that next season!

The last episode invented cheese
gregbeazley4 October 2020
The whole season was brilliant. Charmingly cheesy and heartwarming, while filled with funny tidbits that make you love the characters. But that last episode felt a bit disconnected from the rest and the cheese factor was like a strong cheddar. Nothing wrong with the storyline, but the enthusiastic atmosphere in the football changing rooms was unnatural and corny.

We see that Lasso does not forget about Jamie and signals for a better turn for their future relationships. Rebecca is fully on board with Lasso even though the team has been relegated.

Beautiful stuff here. Looking forward to season 2!

I was expecting a happy ending

Warning: Spoilers
Deducted one star due to not so happy ending. I understand one of the lesson was winning is not always that important but still I would have liked the series to end with happy faces. Just love all the characters, the world need more men like Ted with all his postivity and kindness. I will eagerly wait for the next season.

The Hope That Kills You Warning: Spoilers
Definitely they saved the best till last. I knew at the end that they'd get the draw, I thought that much was obvious, a film trope to finish off the season nicely, but the Manchester City last minute goal came out of nowhere and shocked me, what a great show! The only thing I didn't like was what I heard God being refered too as "she", perhaps I miss-heard...Anyways the episode had it's classic Lasso high spirits but where he changed his tune to accommodate the reasons in life where one doesn't have to be positive but reminds us that even after hardship or upset, to dwell on the past is a fools errand and should thusly be avoided.

Down but not out
xmasdaybaby196611 June 2023
A great end to the series and they must have known a second series was in the making with the concluding result.

Ironically, I watched this on June 11 2023, the day after Manchester City won the treble zof the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League trophies so a fitting result as far as I was concerned.

The story concludes well but why does Rupert have to be totally nasty while Rebecca is only nasty to get at her ex husband?

Young Rebecca is shown only to be there for the good times leaving Rupert alone in defeat (obviously a character with the same name being used to highlight he misses his ex wife) while Roy begrudgingly let's out his upset with Keeley.

A feel good show where you care for thd stars but not necessarily funny.

It reminds me of classic UK comedy show Only Fools And Horses in that sense.

Roll on series 2 and hope my team Birmingham City (the longest serving championship club) at least receive a mention.

Facing Destruction
Hitchcoc25 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The Richmond team probably would have been knocked down to the next level whether Ted was there or not. Rebecca threw the dice and they lost early on. This episode is about a group of guys who did everything they could against the best team in the league (the one Jamie plays for now). Due to incredible goalkeeping, they managed to hang in there until a penalty kick put them behind. But perseverance gave them a chance and they took it, only to lose their focus for a brief moment. There is so much to this show. Lasso's bromides notwithstanding, it's about character and his love of the team. It is Rebecca finally warming to things. I'm curious how things will play out in the second season.

The Hope That Kills You
Prismark103 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It opens with a surprise for Nate. He has been replaced as a kit man. That is because Nate has been promoted to the coaching staff.

The season rests with a must win match against Manchester City and they have got Jamie Tartt back for them.

However Jamie pops down to Richmond to salvage what he can of his relationship with Keeley.

For the first time, both Ted and Coach Beard do some actual coaching like their lives depended on it. Working out some trick plays in the training ground.

That extends to a motivational team talk. On the pitch Roy Kent goes out like an old warrior in one last battle.

Jamie finally utilises something that Ted tried to drum into him at Richmond. It only breaks Richmond hearts.

A bittersweet finale. The team are relegated. The second series is going to be Richmond trying to claw back to the Premier league.

The hard work was done in the first series. You really care about the characters.
