I finished the movie with mixed feelings, so will split my review into three -
1. Story 2. Film quality (direction, editing, screenplay, cinematography etc.) 3. Acting
1. Starting with story - it is nothing new, we have at the hurt a basic love story between two people of different religion, living together is a society which is harmonious but edgy.
Follows the cliches of childhood love, friendly family, discord, elopement, reconciliation ( kinda)
But one thing I liked is that it showed real characters and there were mostly shades of grey, including the protagonists ! There are no clear villians or heroes - as is real life, the true villians are own minds and what the minds have created as a social constraint over generations.
Would rate 6/10
2. I have a lot of complaints with the way the film was made, starting with editing - the movie can shed atleast 20-25 mins and could include some more light into how their parents are getting treated, how the parents interact publicly to maintain the 'fascade', some more foreshadowing on their evil / selfish intentions along with their love and humanity.
The lighting in the movie is very poor at initial scenes and direction was inconsistent (the kids were good - but he could not utilise them optimally as well as the parents)
Cinematography is good, but the graphics at end was cheesy, bad and quite unwanted !
Rating - 4/10
3. Acting Most were really good, the kids were fresh and promising ( could have used much better), Really liked Shine Tom's performance. He was captivating, charismatic and believable.
Prayaga was good, especially her charming expressive eyes and enigmatic smile. She embodied the character and made it believable ( even when the story, direction or effects messed up)
Deepak was average ! I mean he was ok, but could never personify the character completely and didnt manage to make it convincing.
The supporting characters were mixed the policemen, the friend were pretty awful to bad and Indrans, Sudheesh, Nisha and Anju did well with what little screen time they got.
