Since January 2022, Jesse Palmer has fronted ABC’s lucrative “Bachelor” franchise as host of the flagship reality show as well as offshoots “The Bachelorette,” “Bachelor in Paradise” and the upcoming “The Golden Bachelor.” After taking the reins from Chris Harrison, who was ousted in 2021 after facing criticism for defending a contestant accused of racism, the former NFL quarterback and ESPN college football analyst has helped expand the show’s female-skewing audience to include more men.
“I have this theory that the dirty little secret in Bachelor Nation was that men were always watching anyway,” says Palmer. “They just never wanted to admit it.”
In fact, football is often on the brain for the former University of Florida standout, who will be showing his Gator pride Friday for College Colors Day, the faux holiday spawned by licensing leader Clc.

Jesse Palmer, who starred as the fifth Bachelor in 2004, will return to the long-running ABC reality series to host the upcoming 26th season. The new role comes as Palmer expands his relationship with Disney, where he has served as a sports analyst on ESPN since 2007 and previously contributed to Good Morning America and ABC News. Palmer currently hosts ABC’s summer competition show The Ultimate Surfer and before that hosted The Proposal, the 2018 reality show created by Bachelor producer Mike Fleiss. The former college football and NFL quarterback replaces Chris Harrison, who stepped away from The Bachelor earlier this year amid controversy relating to comments made about racist photos of winning contestant Rachael Kirkconnell. Since Harrison’s departure, the show has seen Emmanuel Acho host the After the Final Rose special at the end of Matt James’ season and former contestants Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe co-host The Bachelorette. “For more than 20 years,...

Jesse Palmer, who was the fifth Bachelor in 2004, is returning to the ABC reality franchise as host for the upcoming 26th season, set to air in early 2022. The assignment is expanding Palmer’s responsibilities at Disney. An ESPN analyst since 2007, he has also signed an extension and will continue his studio role with the network during the 2021-2022 college football season, the Disney sports network said Tuesday.
Palmer succeeds Chris Harrison, who left The Bachelor at the end of last season amid controversy. Emmanuel Acho stepped in to host the After the Rose special. Harrison eventually exited the entire Bachelor franchise.
In bringing in a former Bachelor as host, ABC and Warner Bros are following the same blueprint they used for The Bachelorette, currently hosted by former leads Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe, who succeeded Harrison.

ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” went to work on Labor Day. And work it did. As did NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” and Fox’s “MasterChef,” which also didn’t take Monday off. The CW’s newly canceled “Republic of Sarah” probably should have just sat this one out. The secession series (which will definitely not be confused with HBO’s “Succession” series) settled for a 0.0 rating on the national holiday. Every broadcast show* that put on an original episode last night declined from the prior week’s ratings. *Except for The CW, which aired new episodes of “DC’s Stargirl” and “Supergirl.” While The CW’s super-women shows remained flat with their previous episodes, a 0.1 rating apiece is not much to write home about. It’s also easier to maintain. Led by “America’s Got Talent,” NBC topped another Tuesday. ABC was second in the key ratings demo of adults 18-49, thanks to “Bachelor in Paradise.” After the dating competition, “The Ultimate Surfer” ate sand, halving last Tuesday’s rating. “Bachelor in Paradise” slipped a bit from last week, but ABC still topped Monday in ratings among adults 18-49. The Disney-owned broadcast network settled for third place in terms of total viewers, however, behind the winner (by that metric) NBC and CBS, which averaged just 35,000 more primetime viewers than ABC. Of course, these are the earliest-available Nielsen numbers, which are subject to adjustment. Still, CBS has to be pretty pleased with a second-place finish in viewers — especially considering it only aired reruns. Execs there are not going to be high-fiving over a fourth-place ranking in the key ratings demo, repeats or not. “Bachelor in Paradise” was Monday’s highest-rated show on broadcast’s primetime. “American Ninja Warrior” was America’s most-watched. With all due respect to “America’s Got Talent,” summer is not exactly the time when Nielsen ratings threaten to fall off the charts — at least, not the top of the charts. And when it comes to new series, a summer slot isn’t generally a vote of confidence from the network.

“The Ultimate Surfer” didn’t catch much of “Bachelor in Paradise’s” ratings wave with Monday’s premiere, which received a 0.3 among adults 18-49 and just 1.46 million total viewers. In the two hours leading up to “Ultimate Surfer’s” debut, ABC averaged a 0.9 demo rating and 3.22 million overall viewers. “BiP” was enough to hand ABC first place in terms of primetime ratings averages last night. NBC was No. 1 in total-viewer averages, however. NBC was preempted in New Orleans for the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Saints “Monday Night Football,” which makes these early numbers for NBC particularly subject to adjustment. Most of the country got “American Ninja Warrior” and “The Wall” on that network. ABC was first in ratings with a 0.7 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 2.6 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Bachelor in Paradise” aired from 8 to 10, “The Ultimate Surfer” premiered at 10 o’clock.
