Good except...

Warning: Spoilers
I thought the episode was actually really good. But then the cast started singing Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting (Elton John), and as much as I love that song, they BUTCHERED it. I have never been so disappointed in a musical performance on this show. Camilla (Veronica) sounded great, but Casey (Kevin) sounded tone deaf. Good thing Archie's fight scene during the song made up for it.

Tangerine (#4.09)

Warning: Spoilers
This show is in a narrative and tonal rut. It just can't move on from Fred's death and keeps inventing new plots as a way to re-circle it. It is clear that the writers are still grieving over Luke Perry, but they have given him more than enough of a commemoration (In Memoriam, The Ice Storm) and need to get some fresh ideas on the page and move characters' storylines forward.

The only plot with any substance/progression is that of Jughead at Stonewall Prep and the mystery surrounding Chipping's murder. It is progressing well. The other plots, however, are just circling around and eating their own tails.

Archie is caught up in obstacle after obstacle regarding Fred's death. It was a tragic ordeal but it's time for his character to get an actual plot-line instead of the plot just being his trauma. Veronica is back to playing the same games with her father, revealing her plans to defeat him too early, and him always being two steps ahead and scuppering them (it is clear she did not take the therapist's advice to distance herself from him). Betty is caught up in a bizarre allegorical plot surrounding Dark Betty and her serial killer genes, which Alice and Charles are just static and circling Betty's weird self-confrontational journey. Cheryl is grieving over Jason (again) and giving her mother what she deserves, so just confronting events of the past without starting anything new.

It seems to be a recurring theme this season that entire plots are just being an exploration of the trauma caused by past events. Betty's entire plot is her analyzing the trauma caused by The Farm. Archie's entire plot is him acting out on the trauma of his father's death. Veronica's entire plot is her inability to move on from her father's monstrosities. Cheryl's entire plot is grieving over Jason, again, and confronting what her mother did last season. While these are interesting things to explore in one or two episodes, they do not constitute entire season-long plots. Again, the only plot that is going anywhere and leading to some sort of endgame is that of Stonewall Prep.

It's time for the writers to move on from the past and start thinking about the future. Let's hope for new plots in the second half and in season five.

Character development!!
tannerdoan1614 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure why people are reviewing badly. I'm also not sure why people are relating this show to reality as if any CW show is realistic. Heck, riverdale is even a fictional location... anyway this episode was a huge journey in all characters lives! Cheryl / Jason's legacy coming to a close. Betty finally being consumed by the darkness that has surrounded her for the past 3 seasons. Also JUGHEAD?! Whaaaat. Veronica is still serving us with her sass with daddy & getting her way! Archie is still getting in trouble & trying to reconcile with his fathers loss. All of this sounds very realistic given the circumstances of the fictional story we are being told. Can't wait to see more!

Warning: Spoilers
Once again, Riverdale doesn't fail to impress.I mean,WTF!!!!. Jughead is in a secret society,so he's about to get into real trouble. The character development is making me forget more and more about season 3 and the ending confirms our biggest mystery yet,and with a bigger twist may I add.The only way they can reverse what is about to happen is if they crossover with Sabrina, which is at this point either a least or most likely thing to happen.Keep up the redemption.Cant wait for 2020

THE HEAT IS ON! Now we're back in the darker depths, and the character development from the last episode continues. Your heart breaks from Cheryls destiny, all that endless suffering throughout her life! And please please please let the end of the episode be nothing but a bad dream!

I think I'm done.

The writing is just so bad. Every time you think it's too obvious or stupid, that's exactly where writers go. And these characters are just unlikeable. How can you watch a show with characters you hate? Not love to hate. Just flat out hate, for being walking talking clichés, who never stop star gazing. True, the episode ends on a BIG revelation. But trust writers for finding yet another cop out, to have characters (and their fans) get their way, once again. This is tiring. And I'm glad ratings are so bad lately. It shows I'm not the only one feeling this way about the series...

RIVERFAIL KEEPS FAILING US ALL

Warning: Spoilers
So to be clear here I am or at least was an actual fan who enjoyed s1 and most of s2! I was so pumped up for s3 and I was sure no matter how messty things would get I'd still watch the show because "HEY IT'S RIVERDALE IT'S ALWAYS GOOD!" but little did I know these plots COULD EVER happen! I mean this season is by far the dumbest thing I've seen in my entire life and well I have seen a lot! From sevret brothers and sister and twins ... like WE HAD ENOUGH OF THAT! come up with some new ideas will ya? And I don't mean ideas like Cheryl and Toni being hunted or Jughead going to the stupidest school in the world.just to discuss their favorite books and fight over it! I think the writers have absloutly forgotten the favt that these people are just KIDS! How can you let a kid run a club like Veronica does or I don't know gets this deep into all kinds of scary stuff like Betty? This show has to be canceled I said what I said

Still stupid
bluehawk2515 December 2019
I don't know who is writing the scripts. But at least I know that he's not doing a good job. This season does still continue like the previous one. Nothing makes sense, the characters are stupid. I think the only reason this show is alive is because of Netflix. And this show has a lot of fans outside the USA. Maybe I'm 20 years to old for this show.

If someone is asking why I'm still watching this... I don't know that either. But there are not many reasons to continue this show anymore.

Tangerine, seriously!
M-Burrows113 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It is just insane now. There is no sane parts. Riverdale has lost the plot. Archie, who is a teenager, shouldn't be fighting people. Charles is weird and creepy, Jughead should just come back to Riverdale not that school. Betty needs to just quit it with the "Serial Killer Gene." And I have no idea what Veronica is doing anymore. I only like Alice and FP. Cheryl needs more of a storyline and Toni, rather than her stupid doll brother. Come on, you can do better!
