June criticism baffling
nottaproblemuk30 April 2021
The level of calm and rational thought some viewers expect from a lead character who was abducted and had her daughter stolen, and then was raped, brutalised and beaten for years on end is simply astonishing. Also the claims that she is 'selfish' are so ridiculous it's actually funny - did she not just save 83 children from a life spent in a violent, patriarchal tyranny? Would a selfish character not have taken advantage of an opportunity to escape Gilead? EITHER time?

Sure there are moments where you're left frustrated and shouting at the screen due to the occasional poor judgement of her character - but again, why on God's green earth would you expect someone who's endured what she's endured to always be in a totally rational and calm state of mind? It would be far more unrealistic if she was still thinking totally clearly all the time. She's obviously unstable, but has still managed to free many children. And yes, people have died along the way, sometimes as a result of her actions, but again, we're back to 'maybe there's a teeny tiny chance that all of those years of rape, brutalisation and violence has had somewhat of an effect on her mental state'... Some people...

Had me on the edge of my seat til the very end. Also very depressing
I hate to see the manipulation and physical torture June had to endure throughout this episode. This, in combination with the episodes final sequence left me feeling so many different emotions after completion. While I am intrigued to see where they can go with this story from here, I wonder as to how long the story can continue without feeling forced. Currently, I am down for the ride, and loved this pst episode. The music and cinematography were great. My one gripe with the episode is the sound mixing while on the roof. The actors voices were very low compared to the other background noises occurring. Overall, 9/10.

I'm kind of angry right now
Lou-Series28 April 2021
I absolutely love this show, it's among my favorite shows ever actually. But after watching these 3 episodes, I now understand and agree (mostly) with the bad reviews it is getting. The story isn't moving forward like at all! It's just June getting tortured, losing people, and for what? We've been there done that already. It isn't entertaining nor interesting anymore. We know she won't die.

Believe me I still love this show, and I'll watch till the end but here's to hoping the next episodes actually change something. Sadly I don't think that will happen.

Emotionally Devastating
oldcapecod-425-96619828 April 2021
This may be the most gut-wrenching episode to date, with shocking and tear-jerking moments in virtually every frame. It's a beautifully executed directorial debut for Elisabeth Moss. Careful. This one hurts!

Heart wrenching episode
MazzyMayhem-117-54451127 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am 'late to the party' and just binge watching The Handmaid's Tale now. I have held off writing a review (I wanted to wait until the end) but this episode is so heart wrenching to watch, I can't wait.

Elizabeth Moss has been magnificent throughout in her role as June, very ably supported by the others. Aunt Lydia belongs in a psychiatric hospital!

Back to this episode, I cried throughout especially when June and Nick are on the bridge (Max Minghella has just been superb and is very easy on the eye too!). The power in this scene was intense, closely followed by the very ending at the crossing.

I don't understand the negative reviews this series has received. The storyline takes place over several years. June is not a superhero or vigilante, solving the problem in a couple of days. Of course the story needs time to progress and follow through. I actually think it has improved because of this and the characters have a depth you wouldn't find in a 2 hour film.

I can't cry anymore today so I shall resume my binge watching tomorrow...

Congratulations Elizabeth Moss. 10 out of 10 !
dimondbuti-1088328 April 2021
Elizabeth Moss seemingly came out of nowhere, after her artistic performance with the cast of mad men she picked up where she left off with the Handmaid's tale. She is continuing to amaze everyone with her gifts in front of, and now behind the camera. She is becoming a tour de' force in the world of acting.

The Crossing is the finest episode yet of the series and is setting up Max Minghellas character to be a huge link in the story. Ann Dowd is AMAZING !

Amazing debut
lily_georgieva9318 July 2022
That episode was so powerful, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. The last scenes were so breath taking that my jaw dropped. Extreme debut for Elisabeth Moss, not only an amazing actress, but also an amazing director.

The whole show is getting better with every episode.

I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT
Ben-9201528 April 2021
These 3 episodes (this in particular) just proves to me why I love this show and have been missing it for so long. I am actually speechless. They really do not hold back in this episode at all. I just didn't see it coming oh my god. I'm sat here crying rn. All I can say is well done to this incredible cast and Elizabeth Olsen for her directorial debut. She knocked it out of the park. This actually might be one of, if not the, favourite episodes of mine. Like wow.

This one hurted
daisruba30 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
June made the right call saving Hannah. And if the other handmaid's were smarter they would have moved to a different safehouse as soon as possible, knowing that there could be a chance that they got the information out of June somehow.

Also... Aunt Lydia is still a disgusting rat.

Nonsensical
Yvie813 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have to agree with a lot of reviewers who say things are getting a bit unbelievable by now. June has more plot armour than is good for the continuation of this story. Basically she should have been hanged at least 10 times already considering Gilead law. Also, how did Nick get promoted as a commander anyway? And how do they trust him with her? He seems to be the only logical reason why she's still alive.. But also: he's that one that captured her, and he at least consented in using her daughter against her to make her rat out the other handmaids. And he also knew she would get tortured in that place.. Why would she still love him anyway? He basically betrayed her! Then again, I know it's twisted, but at the same time I was like "this kiss better not be their only love scene of this entire season!" I also start to feel like they don't know what to do with the characters who escaped Gillead and are now in Canada. It's like they want to show they still exist but they don't really have a meaningful storyline left for them.. I hope the rest of the season will make a bit more sense.

Not believable
sammysmith-515362 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So June gets caught again and is pretty much the most wanted person in gilead but still she survives?? People have been hung for so much less which makes her survival once caught unbelievable. Then to escape again with one guard going for a wee, they would of been more heavily guarded than that after stealing 86 children!! I love handmaids tale it's gritty, emotional and has you on the edge but plot holes like this make it less enjoyable.

Max!
KRhea3317 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am writing this review a second time after losing my first iteration because of how passionate I feel about this show, but in particular this episode.

After missing any piece of Nick and June in season 3, this particular episode reunites them albeit briefly and it's incredibly touching. He loves her and she loves him. Before we have recovered from that, the Handmaid's are tragically hit by the oncoming train. I did not see any of it coming and no matter how many times I watch this episode, it gets me every time.

Please give me more Nick and June. Something deep inside me will never let them go - despite all obstacles and challenges. I keep the faith that love will prevail and they will be a family some day!

tashadaviesjj28 April 2021
These comments we know she won't die so it's not that great how far can they go without feeling forced but I'll watch to the end erm....how far do you think it would go killing june? Not very. They're doing their very best to keep it exciting, going and I for one appreciate that even if no one else does. Absolutely love this show 10 out of 10.

First time I ever broke down over a show
aya-baclao6 June 2021
I'm not a big crier over anything, but this episode.... I had to pause THAT scene and bawl to my brothers. Had to smoke a few cigarettes before rewinding but ended up crying just as hard again. The music, the acting, the sisterhood. The whole show is a masterpiece but on my deathbed this episode will be in my flashbacks just before I die. Beautiful. Freaking beautiful!

Still weeping!!!
blonde-irka6 May 2021
I have never have a breakdown watching a movie or a show before! What have I just watched? So many emotions, events, sadness, power in just one episode! The end is heartbreaking and unexpected, it completely got me in it, with the acting, music score, colors everything! Such a special episode! Hands up to Elisabeth Moss as a director as well as an actress! She is just phenomenal! At first I wanted to rewatch the ending but I was literally crying out loud and couldn't stop so I left it for another time. First episodes of this season started of like a low notes and is already getting higher and higher, can't wait to see what's next!"Crossing" got me to write my first review ever!

It's good, but they need to speed things up!
velandiaquijano1 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show. I loved the book, the sequel ("The Testaments") and how it all fits together in this crazy world called Gilead. I've been waiting for Season 4 for a long time, and the first two episodes were good. This one, well... It's more of the same. It was exceptionally directed by Elisabeth Moss herself, yes, but enough with June not moving on!

The other characters are moving along (especially Serena, I loved that surprise), but June seems to be stuck in Gilead and trapped again and again, for ever! I know the story should get interesting and exciting, which it has always been, but please, move forward!!! I get it, it's "The Handmaid's Tale", but still... And the last minutes of this episode were awesome, even though the train effects looked a little cheap... But those are the kind of twists that season 1 and 2 were full of, that's what I miss! A last-minute twist and turn that keep you on the edge of your seat, screaming for more.

Elisabeth Moss direct debut Warning: Spoilers
Always love seeing the cast gettibg involved behind the scenes. Elisabeth did a fantasic job.

She had the chance to hit Aunt Lydia at the end... why didn't she!?

The end was sad with the train part. Glad to be seeing the softer side of Nick again.

Where are the plot? What this series trying actually to achieve?
matiasbockerman1 May 2021
The book on which the series is based on is brilliant like a series of self: the first two seasons have been a great TV entertainment. Control, effects and perhaps the best female actress's performance that the TV has been offered in recent years. This series was in my personal favor but unfortunately I feel that a series rotate the sircle again and again: Constantly someone is on a run trying to scape and - in the end - get caught: Constantly new tortures. It seems that the manuscript does not matter so, but trying to force the series to create a just the powerfull expression and strong and severe scenes trying to save series. What about a story itself and going forward? As spectacular as the series is(directing, acting) it's not really offered anything new. I hope I'm wrong and this season will raise this fallen series.

JUNE=DEATH
jennfinn29 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
ONCE AGAIN JUNE MAKES A HASTY (selfish, stupid, immature, & idiotic) DECISION AND SOME OTHER INNOCENT FOOL PAYS WITH THEIR LIFE. How many more innocent characters have to die because of June and her selfish behavior ?? Who the hell is Nick that he's untouchable ? They see he's obviously close to June so WHY WOULD THEY TRUST HIM AND NOT THINK HE WAS HELPING HER ? She loves Hannah so much yet she makes out with Nick like a teenager after he basically admits using Hannah as leverage to find the location of the other handmaids. MOTHER OF THE YEAR !! I'm pretty sure June's innocent death toll is a lot higher right now than most of the men in Gilead. Everything she does results in some fool being tortured or killed. Four handmaids killed, two shot to death (I thought there was a shortage so they weren't supposed to be killed) running away and two run over by a train and behold JUNE IS OKAY. I don't know how much longer this show can continue because it seems to be repeating itself instead of actually going anywhere.

DEATHS (Innocent people) (so far) THIS SEASON BECAUSE OF JUNE :

4 handmaids 2 Marthas 1 (at least) security dude at the Keyes' farm **possibly Mrs Keyes who was taken into custody UNKNOWN - The amount of people killed at the other farm when June ratted out the handmaids.

morrisonproductions30 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
7 recent fugitives, seven people who have escaped custody at least once before, a couple of them known to be be violent and only one guard is escorting them?

That is what's commonly referred to in writing as cheating.

The wheels are spinning, but does the story go anywhere?
foff-313985 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
They're in and out, and in and out, and in and out, potentially forever. They just got out this episode, and it looks like they'll be chased for a bit more before they're back in again. Or perhaps no, perhaps we've seen the last of handmaid land? I sure as hell had enough of that now. 1 was good, 2 was fine, 3 was pushing it, but if 4 is going to be the same I'm walking away.

One of the best episodes
lexikorgan28 July 2021
This show always keeps me on my toes, I never know what to expect, and I'm always shocked as it unravels. This episode is absolutely amazing, the twists with nick, the passion within Elizabeth Moss as she acts.

The last scene with nick and June, is gut wrenching as you can see the chemistry and love between characters. Their love looks so real, for being fictional characters. It's truly beautiful.
