It gets dark
kaf-3992816 December 2020
This episode gets beyond dark. I actually had to split it into parts because I couldn't handle it. As someone who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and lives in a highly conservative place, I can say that this episode is way too accurate. Having a content warning was highly necessary and I would give this 11/10 if I could.

Important episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is incredibly important. It was really hard to watch especially knowing that this is a lot of people's reality. The fact that this is Mia's first project is so insane to me. To tackle these kinds of scenes is a not easy, there is a ton of pressure to get a right. And get it right, she did! From the pacing, the insight to shelby's mind and her reaction to her best friends suicide. Thank you for the trigger warning and thank you for the representation and the validation that this episode gave for many of its viewers.

IMPORTANT

Warning: Spoilers
This episode handles something incredible important with authenticity. For representing those who are struggling in their youth and have depression as well as those repressed LGBTQ+ in religious homes. The Becca storyline as emotional as it is was covered well and very insightful while representing the hardships a lot of teens are going through. The Shelby storyline is one that needs to be shared because it is such an actuality for a lot of people and it was handled incredibly well.

The acting in this episode was the best it has been the entire series Cried so much watching.

Content warnings are a must on these kinds of episodes cause while it needs to be seen it can be triggering and with how well this was done i can only imagine how hard it would be to watch for those who truly relate.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode highlights the struggles for young teens who have to grow up with oppressive forces in their family and community. Throughout the episode, it truly shows how being in such a toxic environment could effect oneself to go as far as to have pure hatred for themself. It also shows the danger of this force on a person as it may affect others along the way.

Spoiler before the show even begins.

They literally tell you what is going to happen in the episode before it even starts! So people don't get offended. It's a 15 rating, so expect a little "darker" viewing.
