Great Latter Dauy Top Gear Episode...You Need To See This One
AudioFileZ24 February 2020
Simply put what makes this one a must see is that in 2020 the three presenters choose worthy cars to decide the best sports car as of 2020. Perhaps to some, but not to the faithful, it's the Porsche 911. What follows is my thoughts on this.

Hidden in plain sight is one of the most important segments. We are well into the 21st Century and many of our industrial pursuits have matured many times over. Automobiles are at the top of the list as far as things we use daily go. It's a very monumental question as of 2020: "what is the best sportscar one can buy?".

As many of us expect the segment on the best sportscar leads off with the Porsche 911 as posited by Chris Harris. Chris is unabashedly a Porsche fan and with his credentials as both a professional racing driver as well as journalist he can back up what he says. Yes, the Porsche may have some drawbacks but over it's history it has proven to be the greatest sportscar time and agian. Chris says this includes the present.

Soon Chris meets his mates and their choices. Paddy rolls up in a Ferrarri and Freddie keeps the home fires burning with his Aston Martin. Actually I don't really care too much about the particular models of these cars because they're representative of any other competitor. They're really great cars with gobs of horsepower and, generally, modern drivetrains with computers and all which insure some impressive track behavior. For all of this in a few years these cars will mostly be memories even if the nameplates live on. They are not classics and they are subject to major overhauls at any time. The 911 on the other hand has the DNA it's had since it's earliest incarnations. It's kept the faith and simply refined it with advances in both engineering and manufacturing. It never, however, forgot it's purpose of being a compact driver's car with extra omph and predictable handling. The car always connects with the driver in a singular way. You feel the interface of the car and the road and you have a big say in things if you are reasonably experienced. This is a driver's car non-paraliel. This is the quentesential sportscar for both the 20th and now the 21st century. It's a high benchmark. Others will eclipse it various ways yet none will wrap up all the great things in one package quite like the Porsche 911. After this segment I really don't care too much for anything else the lads present on this show. This cuts to the bone of why I watch and why I am a petrolhead.

In closing one thought comes to mind...these lucky chaps have the dream job I'd fantasize to have. Well, if I couldn't ALSO (i.e. as in addition to and not in lieu of) be a Michelin chef or rock star multi-instrumentalist/writer/producer. These guys are living the dream, and save for Chris they're punters as I now can appreciate Matt LeBlanc exponentially more.
