slow burn episode
pauli_gomez11 August 2021
I feel that most of the episode is actually a filler- Do not misunderstand me, some important things happened in the episode but there are things we already knew. So it is as if the main story moves very little and too slowly. Hopefully, it is building for something better.

A Modern POLITICAL Take on Dracula and Bathory
scottmannen18 May 2021
I want to like this show so much but there are some problems with it that I am having trouble getting my head around. Dracula has been converted from the thirteenth century warlord that we knew in real life into a woman. I don't have any issues with gender and enjoy strong females in film, but changing such a well known historical man into a woman for the sake of modern day woke is a tough pill to swallow when there is just so much established history with Vlad Dracula. The novel written by Bram Stoker also has a ton of established historical horror based on a real person who was literally a monster in real life that commîtes mind bending atrocities in the name of the church and his country.

When the creator of this show throws away all of that crazy real life horror history just to convert the bad guy into a woman it really erases all of that terror that the male Dracula carried with his name and reputation.

With all of the vampire history they seem to be destroying they have decided to throw in another alleged vampire from real history and that of course happens to be Elizabeth Bathory. At least this woman who actually lived in a completely different time of history than Dracula didn't require a gender swap. Bathory in real life was as close to a real life vampire as one can get, having had hundreds of young women's blood drained so she could bathe in their blood and drink it also. I think it's interesting that they included her on the show and I want to see how her character develops!

In addition to gender swapping a popular and well known Dracula, the big bad organization that appears to be the evil this season is called "The Sisterhood". From what I can tell the Sisterhood is an all female organization of nuns that are actually devil worshippers, witches and warriors. Ok, that's an interesting concept but back in that age and time women usually weren't warriors and I am pretty sure that suspected witches were systematically chased down and killed by the church, particularly around this time in history. The show is turning established history on its head and showing men in dumb, weak and ultimately useless fashion. I realize that this woke style of tv and film is quite popular in Hollywood these days, but it changes so much from the reality of real history into some kind of SJW fantasy that never actually occurred and ends up being so different that in the end not a whole lot makes sense.

I really like vampire tv shows and movies so I am trying very hard to get into this show! I am 4 episodes in and clearly I have some issues with the writing being a bit too woke for my tastes; however, even if the show is ultra woke it doesn't mean that they still can't create a great story with this show. I watch tv shows like this to find an escape from all of the crazy divisive politics in the real world and the last thing I want thrown in my face when I am trying to be entertained is more real world politics injected into what is supposed to be an entertaining fantasy.

I truly hope this show gets better and that it will shed some of the politics in favour of a more gripping story. I mean focusing 100% on story writing instead of 75% gripping storyline and 25% of trying to change the world by forcing SJW politics and political messages down our throats would be a welcome change because I truly believe this show has a great premise and could really become something greater if only they listened to their audiences and what they would enjoy most.

Waste

What a waste of an episode! With so many unfinished storylines and the finale only 11 episodes away, I'm lost as to why another episode was dedicated to this mediocre backstory. Plus, Jack's astral projecting? What even.
