A fascinating and personal portrait
bienenkorb8011 March 2009
I saw this documentary on TV and can only recommend to anyone who is interested in Israeli history. The film accompanies Sharon for a few months of his government and portrays him in an intimate and unprejudiced way - reflecting on his life that has been linked to the history of the state of Israel from the very beginning, following the political developments and opinions throughout the decades. Personal background info, interviews with (former) world leaders about his person and politics complement a compelling portrait of this unique figure in history. Maybe the film lacks a certain distance and criticism of Ariel Sharon, but on the other hand the unbiased and sympathetic approach to Sharon is the very quality of this well-made documentary.

Berlin Film Festival

This documentary about Sharon (the politician, but you know that) was shown at the Berlin Film Festival. I have to admit that I couldn't follow the complete documentary and it's a shame, because it wasn't bad per se.

It was more that I was watching movies like others run in marathons and the movie was dragging. Dragging in the sense, that I hadn't read any Sharon bio or was really informed about his story. I thought I'd get that from the documentary. Well I was kind of wrong. You have to go into the movie, with a bit of a knowledge. And that is the reason, why I didn't rate it high. Still people with more knowledge should watch it, they'll enjoy it more than me
