Pretty great ending
ninjaboyballer9 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just got done watching this episode and I just gotta say wow. I'll be the first to say this show has never been perfect, but in my opinion this ending was. It was emotional and powerful and felt like a satisfying conclusion to a show that we never thought would go past that first season. Justin's death was one of the most emotional scenes this season and the series in general. I also love show they payed tribute to Hannah and what started the series as well as show a glimpse of a brighter future for everyone. Overall, really great ending and could not have thought of anything more tragic but at the same time happy and moving.

Final rating: 9/10

A good ending to a bad season
rcwgrimm6 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The season started out bad but the last few episodes were so good. This finale was great and the characters ended up in a good spot. It was sad and I cried. The death was heartbreaking and I cried like a baby but it ended on high note. I will miss this show and these characters.

A fitting end after all the mess.
connorpritchard14 June 2020
This season was hard to watch at times. It brought up some tough, hard topics. That's what 13 reasons was always about. The show lost its way from the first season which I regard as a television masterpiece. This episode brings it back full circle; all of what we fell in love with in the first place. Part of me wished they never made anymore seasons after the first one. However, I think the show has addressed further serious issues that young people are forced to deal with, and this is important. After everything, I'm sad it's all over having watched these characters develop over the last 3 years and I will miss them.

Absolutely amazing

WOW! I cried my eyes out! It was so EPIC! First of all I think Justin's death was unnecessary because he really deserved better after all he went through, but it kinda made this final episode unforgettable I guess! And the graduation was THE BEST PART, see all these characters happy made me even cry more And the fact that Ryan and Courtney were in this ceremony made me so happy! And you know what I LOVED about this show? The final message; to forgive each other, that everyone makes mistakes and it's okay, to love others even at their worst times, to keep going, this is how we should live

Would have to be the unluckiest High School ever
cjehackney18 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I only watched season 4 as I knew it was the final season and after season 3 my expectations were low. Season 4 in my opinion was unnecessary and seriously could of been wrapped up with just episodes 9 & 10. Episodes 1-8 were just crazy. All I can say that High School and that senior year has to be the unluckiest ever. 1 death by suicide, 1 death by car crash, 2 murdered, 1 death by aids. Not too mention 1 attempted suicide, 3+ rapes and a student nearly shooting up the school. Season 3 was annoying enough but seriously season 4 was just weird - so much is just clay losing grip of reality and him being really really intense. He was covered in blood and holding a knife at a school dance, freaked out in a school lockdown drill where he stole a sheriff's gun and went into a police station and pretended to have a gun, not to mention that he was the main suspect in a murder the year before - but yet seems to have no consequences and is selected to do a speech at graduation! If I was one of his class mates I would be terrified of him. Justin's death was unnecessary too. Why did they need to kill off another character? It would of been more satisfying to see him overcome his addiction and start to make something of his life. I was hoping the series would end with Clay turning himself in and taking the fall for Bryce's death to protect his friends and to finally give him some peace.

Another series that started so good but then just went 2 if not 3 seasons too far. What a shame.

A SURPRISINGLY GOOD FINALE
utkarshraj-987206 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This season was actually surprisingly really good. After that mess of a 3rd season, they finally went back to the roots of what made this show so unnerving, real and good; mental health and illness. Showing the difference sides of suffering from various mental issues through young adults, they really tried to conjure up the magic of season 1 and I think they succeeded in it too. Not only mental health, they went a step ahead and introduced a very common yet dangerous disease too... Somewhere I knew that particular character had it coming. His departure was devastating and sorrowful, yet beautifully depicted. The second half of the episode focusses on Liberty High's Graduation day which was something really optimistic and nice to watch. The way Jessica and Clay gave their speeches, after what they have to go to through in their years of high school, was really uplifting. We also get a little, very little shot of one of our most beloved characters of 13RW. The best thing they showed throughout the season was how good it is to reach out about your mental health to a professional. The way that psychiatrist treated Clay and actually helped him overcome his mental trauma and state was really a good way to send a message that , " Getting a professional help actually helps". P. S. - Special mention to Charlie, because he was the sweetest character on the show who actually lifted us through some really tough moments.

Warning: Spoilers
Its a goos finale BUT i did not like Justin's plot, its sooo depressing... i like depressing series but i dont like when writers does something just to make people cry, Justin death makes no sense TO ME, my opinion, i think this show could have a better and happier ending, Justin was the best character, the one whi suffer the most, its a low punch made by the writers. The ending wasnt bad.

Good finale episode but has one big flaw
cara99-325-25346413 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Good finale episode wrapped up the show quite well but there's one big flaw in this episode the HIV/AIDS storyline was medically inaccurate it usually takes Untreated HIV 8-10 years to turn into Aids but for Justin 1 year this added to the negative stigma around HIV/AIDS they should have at least used the storyline as a way to educate on the importance of safe sex but they didn't it was just used as tragic plot to kill of a well developed much loved character.the graduation was great well written speech's

A good finale
josuecri7 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Alhough seasons 2 and 3 were not as good as this one or even the first one, season four was pretty decent. One of the best things this series has, in my opinion, are its characters and the actors who portray them, which were pretty good all through this season, Clay suffering from anxiety and depression is something we could expect and kind of plays really well, Justin struggling with his addiction that eventyually led to his death, which was a total shock, it was really sad and probably deserved better, but gives a closure for his story arc, Clay and Justin's relationship as brothers was always amazing, and even Alex realizing new things with Charlie that was pretty intersting and sweet. After all they went through the ending feels satisfyng for them all, finally going to collage and letting the past go by burying the tapes was pretty nice. And they even brought back Courtney, Ryan and Chloe. Not a perfect season (again) but a good series finale overall

The ending provided some redemption to a rubbish season
KBomb599 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode dragged on a bit. I'm no expert, but the accelerated rate of Justin's illness, and the doctors knowing exactly when he was going to die seemed ludicrous. I liked Justin and Clay's last scene with the college application essay. The very last scene with Clay and Tony in the car was a nice touch.

To hell...
sicestvulgus8 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
...with this preachy, self-righteous show. I was, and still am, a big fan of the first season. It truly was a punch in the gut. All the seasons that followed were absolutely unnecessary. Second season tried to recapture some of the magic of season 1 but failed miserably. Seasons 3 and 4 were just...horrendous. They were an insult to the viewers' intelligence, and IMO that is the greatest "sin" a tv show can commit. In season 3 u have a who-dun-it mystery, an incredulous plot twist who everybody saw coming, an even more unrealistic cover-up, a super annoying new character and an inadvertently convoluted message. It not only doesn't add up to much, but after all the ups and downs and backs and forths, the minute u start preaching that rape is worse than murder...i can't even. Season 4 attempted some kind of weird redemption with some of the characters feeling guilty and being tortured by said guilt, but overall it was cliched, exploitative, ridiculous and absolutely, unequivocally unrealistic. Not even heart warming, not even poor justin's death, whose depiction was medically inaccurate, to say the least. I never became convinced that clay's or tony's or justin's bond with alex was so deep and strong that they covered up a cold blooded murder for him. The show tried to deal with too many things at the same time and convey some kind of message or philosophy about every single one. That is a huge target to hit, the game is rigged against you and you fatefully confuse the viewer who doesn't know what he got frim all this in the end. The actor playing alex needs to find another profession asap, very annoying and stiff. I could go on about a million other flaws but I don't have the time. Future viewers, I know it's nearly Impossible but do yourselves a favor and watch the first season only. Please for the love of God just stop right there.

PERFECT
joshphillips8612 June 2020
Expected yet surprisingly tragic but overall flawless ending! I've loved every bit of this show. It's one of the most suspenseful series ever. You'd never believe the characters in the last episode were the same as episode one. It's crazy how they evolve into what they do. It's a great and powerful show.

Outstanding finale
alyssa_formichelli6 June 2020
Season 4 of 13RW was amazing from beginning to end. The last season was unpredictable and had some terrifying moments that go through a persons mind. Dylan did an outstanding job portraying his anxiety with his panic attacks. The last episode made the whole season worth it. I had never felt the sadness in any series finale than I did with 13RW. Brandon Flynn's performance in the last episode was realistic and heartbreaking.

An excellent finale to a great series!!!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode made the entire season and series worthwhile. "Graduation" is moving, inspirational, powerful, and legendary to the core. Very poignant and emotionally nuanced. Loved the character development of the characters--they deserve love and happiness. Saddened by the death of Justin, but saw it coming a mile away. Glad they found love, understanding, and forgiveness in all of their pain and tragedy. The speeches at the graduation ceremony were nothing short of superb, realistic, and awe-inspiring. My only complaint is that I wanted more of this world before it came to such an incredible end.

Stunning performances by all! Amazing finale for this series. We get the closure we need.
drossi8619 June 2020
I don't usually write reviews, but felt I had to for this finale and final season.

First off, I am amazed with how well every character played their part through every season. The acting was superb which is so nice to see for a teen series. I was on the edge of my seat every minute of this season. I know many people are complaining that it was too messy and the story line being all over the place. But I must disagree. Each character was battling something in their own mind, and that's what we got to see for each of them. I can't say too much without spoiling the story. But I truly felt everyone's pain this season. They are all damaged in a way because of what they've all been through. Dylan Minnette ( Clay ) and Brandon Flynn ( Justin ) just WOW! Although the finale was sad ( make sure you have tissues ) it was beautiful in every way. We get the closure we needed. I am sad this is the last season, but the ending was perfect. I don't think I have a negative comment about it. It has been a long time since a TV series has made me feel the way 13 Reasons Why did!

Great finale
dianamarinelli14 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Even though this season was all over the place it did achieve to give a good ending to the series and ended everyone's arc beautifully except for Justin .

My only issue was that Justin didn't deserve to die like that I thought the writing was last minute and his illness was unnecessary.

A hot mess

I have no idea what the writers were thinking. Season 4 was all over the place. I used to care for some of these characters and watching this season made me care so much less about any of them.

An appropriate ending
jadynwinters15 June 2020
I think it wrapped it all up pretty well. Despite how.. rough the season was I think overall this was a proper ending to the series. Also not gonna lie, that one bit at the end of the episode with the essay hit me in the feels just a little bit, teared up cause i imagined how i would feel if that was me reading it.

I'm glad the series is over, much better than dragging it on for another 3 seasons, and I'm looking forward to see where the actors of the show continue out in their careers!

A good teen drama turned to rubbish
thefendiprint6 June 2020
I don't even know where to begin with this show. I thoroughly enjoyed season 1, as I had read the novel in grade school and I felt that the creators put a very solid amount of effort and style into the first season, more than I would have expected otherwise. I appreciated the story being told, despite its very graphic and widely controversial themes. Still, the cast did well and Hannah Baker's death scene will always stick with me.

Then they announced a season 2. I was not very pleased by this decision, but I was open to it since usually Netflix originals are able to keep the momentum going for the most part. Season 2 was not entirely a lost cause, but it was exponentially lacking in the same style and quality that made season 1 so good. While I'm happy that season 2 continued Hannah's story with her trial, much of the season (like most of them) felt forced and contrived. By the end of season 2, it was so obvious the showrunners were creating storylines solely based on exploitative shock factor, rather than shining the light on important issues and causes. It just didn't have the same sort of impact that made season 1 stand out and not get lost in these tropes.

Then season 3 was announced... A dreadful day to all. After a less than satisfying season 2, I was in no way excited about season 3, even after the trailer revealed it would revolve around Bryce's death, a character we all hate. So you would think it would be intriguing to those who hate Bryce, but it did nothing for me. Just like with season 2, they had driven the show so far off road by this point and unraveled so many characters' developments from season 1, it was setting them back and making characters do things that they would otherwise never do. Even with the introduction of Ani, I never cared about her character and I still don't even after season 4.

Once they announced season 4 would be its last, I honestly had thrown in the towel, but alas I decided to give it a shot - mostly to finish out the show. There was simply so reason for a fourth season, especially after the travesty that was season 3. Hell, season 3 was not necessary whatsoever either! It's obvious the showrunners care more about shock value and retaining its viewership that they decided to come up with anything that would appease younger fans. With that said, I will say that season 4 overall is slightly better than 3 but they are both equally garbage in their own rights as well. It's obvious Netflix made bank off the first season, both financially speaking as well as with viewership - it was the talk of the town and I know for a fact their viewership numbers for the show were probably some of the highest they've ever experienced. So naturally, Netflix decided it was a good idea to turn it into a full series and further explore these characters. But that's the problem, this show should have been a limited series with only the first season. Once they decided to continue the show after season 1, it was no longer about Hannah Baker, who is the REASON this even exists to begin with. The longer the show went on, the less importance and impact it had and now it's fizzled into a very underwhelming and boring series finale. Sometimes, things that are good do not need to be expanded on.

Had the show stopped after the first, I truly think it would be revered as one of the best teen dramas and would still retain its important for shining light on dark issues without outright exploiting it (though some would argue that was still the case with season 1, I do not). Instead, they did what many great shows have done (Game of Thrones, for example) and plunged its future seasons into ridiculous and sloppily thrown together storylines with the occasional shock value to keep your attention. And because of that, a great show with a viral impact turned into a forgettable, lackluster series that I will surely forget about in the years to come.
