Steven Universe, when it first aired in 2013, was the show I sat and watched just to have fun and forget about my troubles. Despite the sticky situations the boy found himself in, at least it all had a happy ending to each episode. Notice how I put emphasis on both the situations and the happy endings, because despite my immense love for the show, I had one major problem. And that was Steven's development in terms of writing. The fact that Steven went through all of what he went through without a scratch made me feel a tad upset, because the show's entire development revolved around solving real issues which gems such as Lapis or Pearl dealt with. But then, after the underwhelming movie in 2019 came Future, probably one of the most redeeming things on CN, as there have been multiple shows which have fallen down because of final chapters or reboots. Future examines the realistic side of the equation, as this particular episode spotlights trauma. Steven recounts every misadventure he had, which we as an audience perceived to be a normal thing for a cartoon, particularly for children, however, he suddenly makes us all realise that A. he's a child, and B. every single thing he's been through, realistically, would cause aftershock, and a serious case of PTSD. This episode teaches it's audience about the real world, and how our minds deal with each moment coming past.
