The wait is over...
SGriffin-67 June 2024
I have been eagerly anticipating the screen debut of Hannah Cord, played by Ruth Warrick, who would go on from this show to play Phoebe Tyler on "All My Children" from its premiere in Jan. 1970 until the end of her career in the early 2000s. And it was worth the wait. She's not playing the rich matriarch of the town, as she would on "All My Children," but the long-time housekeeper OF the founding Peyton family--so she's still got some snootiness to her! The episode hints as broadly as they can for 1965 network TV that she is Martin Peyton's mistress as well. And she gets to haul off and crack her son Steven across the face with a good slap too!! (The fact that he seems to know she wants to slap him indicates that this is a "go-to" reaction for her, so we may see a lot more slaps in the future!)

Speaking of trying to keep things clean but drop all sorts of hints, the script provides all of the honorable justifications for why Claire is at Mike's house (it started raining heavily), why she's in his robe (she's wet--but she still has her clothes on underneath), and why the lights are off (the power went out in the storm)...but it still looks mighty unsavory when her father happens to knock on the door! LOL

And just for added oomph, Leslie Nielsen appears--as another character that's been mentioned for months. Plus there's a major calamity!

After about a dozen episodes of doing set-up, the show is definitely firing on all turbines again. Woohoo!
