If ever there as a character in the show at this point that needed fleshing out a bit it was Max Ramsey, and the writers do to some extent provide an opportunity to do this here.
He still remains very unlikable though, pretty much saying that he wished it was Danny who was injured and not the blue eyes boy in Shane.
There's a really great scenes here, one between Des and Daphne, where despite knowing she'll rush to Shane's bed side which he doesn't want, he still tells her. It's beautifully played by Paul Keane and Elaine Smith. The sort of subtle acting you don't get in soaps today.
