He still got it
wanderlazaro-219947 April 2020
Unsurprisingly, he still got it. It may be not his best work, but by far is one of the best sets I've seen on the last 2~3 years, together with the stand ups of Bill Burr, and Chappelle. Ultimately, I'm glad he's back.

If you're willing to watch it, you'll probably love it
Jeremy_Urquhart5 April 2020
I'll say first and foremost that I could completely understand somebody refusing to watch this, even if they were a fan of CK before his reputation changed due to the #MeToo Movement. He addresses it here and there in this new standup show, but not to the extent of Aziz Ansari in his most recent special, and likely not in a way that will get anyone outraged by his actions back on his side.

It's a complicated situation due to the fact that yes, he's admitted he did these things, but that his recollection differs from those he's been accused by. Then there's the whole matter of him being punished without a formal conviction: some would say his reputation suffering was not enough of a punishment, while some would claim he shouldn't have been punished at all by non-traditional, online/social media-driven forms of justice.

Where you fall on the spectrum of whether it's okay to support or even just enjoy CK is entirely up to you. For me personally, the idea of paying for a special of his two years ago may have felt icky, while now, I feel like he may deserve a second chance. And I say this while respecting anyone who does not feel as forgiving as me. And of course, should more serious allegations come out, or if he was to be charged in as official and binding a manner as Harvey Weinstein, such support would feel uncomfortable.

Anyway, that's all preamble, and the long story made short is that you don't have to support him if you feel it's disrespectful to his accusers, and you can support him if you still feel comfortable with doing so. I did, and while it was strange at first, he won me over, and I soon remembered why I used to proudly say he was my favourite comedian.

Truth be told, he still has a tremendous amount of comedic skill, and I laughed out loud numerous times throughout this hour-long special. It's not quite his best work, and there were a couple of jokes here and there that didn't land, but his sense of timing, delivery, and knowing when to cross certain lines for maximum comedic effect were all impeccable. I don't know if delving into his experience with #MeToo in more detail would have made this better exactly. Maybe it would've been more interesting, but probably less funny. It's hard to say whether it would have made for a better overall show.

I have seen many decent to good standup specials over the last couple of years, and while it takes a lot of skill to deliver an hour of good material, it's rare to see somebody deliver an hour of mostly great material. One needs a huge amount of skill to make telling jokes on stage a greatly entertaining experience. In Sincerely Louis CK, he does just that, delivering incredibly funny jokes at such speed that an hour flies by. It could be the start of a solid comeback, or maybe just a one-off. It's a mystery how the public as a whole will respond to his attempts to put himself out there again, but I'm glad he made this, while admittedly having some trepidation about watching it initially.

Even showing my support for it now feels somewhat risky, but few comedians have made me laugh as much as CK has, and so I feel a need to put that out there. In time, I think he should have the right to atone and continue producing material, just as those who continue to feel displeased with his past behaviour have a right to ignore his future work. Of course maybe it's not that simple, and maybe future revelations will complicate things further.

But for now, all I can say for certain is that this special is very funny and not far behind CK's past work in terms of quality. People who still consider themselves fans- or who are at least open to the idea of forgiveness- should check it out as soon as possible.

If You Like His Comedy, Watch It
genious-354134 April 2020
Within 2 minutes, you will remember how utterly dark and intensely funny Louis CK is. Yeah, he addresses the situation a bit at first, and more later on. The only thing you need from a review is whether this special stands up to the level of quality that you have gotten from him over the years. Yes, it does. And if you're on here to simply give him 1 star and vote that all of the positive reviews are not helpful - because you're simply fighting against him - then good for you. It makes no difference other than to make you think you're chipping away at his livelihood. But again... you're not. It's a great special and I didn't hesitate a second to buy it and I began not regretting it right away.

Simply Brilliant
faxanadonts6 April 2020
I love how this feels honest, raw, straightforward, and hilarious. No bells and whistles. Just funny. Of course to get that requires incredible talent and years of hard work, but the experts at the top of their fields always make it look easy. An ounce of Louie can help the world make more progress than ten million tonnes of empty headed social justice warriors. Because Louie is full of truth, talent, and funny. And that's everything and you can feel that in your heart as you watch this. It gives me hope. And it makes me laugh so hard and that feels so good. Thank you Louie.

Glorious return
Oshet5 April 2020
I knew his return was imminent but deep down inside I was worried that he would give in to all the outrage and actually go soft in his new material. But now he seems like a comedian with nothing to lose, not afraid of liberal media bashing him or twitter mob "canceling" him for his jokes. His jokes have gone even darker than before and he doesn't shy away from discussing what he's done. This a ruthless and glorious return and huge middle finger to all SJWs trying to make geniuses like him disappear.

Independently Released, Briliant, Hilarious, Awfully Uncomfortable
pattmayne6 April 2020
He hasn't missed a step, and he's just as funny and twice as uncomfortable as he ever was.

Without any studio backing, no advertising (at least none that I saw), and the whole internet pretending that his career is over, this guy releases an hour of gut-busting and cringe-inducing commentary and laments destroying any competition or doubts about his abilities.

I love/hate the way he digs into the most awkward and embarrassing stuff. But it's actually comforting to have people who can simply talk straight about how hard and absurd life is, without striving to project some idealized version of what a Successful Good Human they are. He even wore a stained shirt for his "comeback" as he dug up his worst demons for everybody to laugh at.

His perversity is an act of kindness for the wretched creatures of the earth. Like when he talks about how not all disabled people are Special Olympians, some of them just wish they had legs, and that's okay. You can just relax. Life is hard.

And he just sells this on his website. It's not a netflix special, there was no fanfare, no nonsense, just an hour of laughter. And it's really good.

Side Splitting Comedy At Its Finest
stopbigotry6 April 2020
Louis CK is a master at illuminating the absurdity at most contemporary controversial subjects. Comedy has been dead for some time and this was the comedic resurrection the USA needed. Thank You!

Most hard hitting act for past ten years
rehman-u19 April 2020
This was the most hard hitting act I've seen in the last decade. I don't write reviews, but wow. This man pushes all boundaries, but discusses the most controversial matters with sophistication and savagery. Anybody who knows comedy knows, you don't dissect comedy. If your not a easily hurt by your easily shaken views on the world, have a sip of this killer special.

I wish he went harder
backup-5036212 June 2021
He should've made more jokes about being "cancelled" because you know at the time everyone was thinking about that. And him brushing it off was hilarious (because let's be honest, he didn't do anything wrong - everything was consented and they just threw him under the bus for attention - yet he's the bad guy in this tale of 2020's cringe metoo feminism).

This lad has balls, but he could've gone stronger. His "edgy" humor isn't that impressive nowadays since at least 5 other comedians also do it and don't give a f. In any case, good to see him doing comedy again. But go hard next time.

Few laughs, but far from his best
termind9 January 2022
This new Louis C. K. special lacks the laughs as compared to his earlier works. I put George Carlin's "Life Worth Living" right after this one which, coincidentally, currently has the same exact rating on IMDB. George Carlin is on a different league, which makes me think Louis C. K.'s "Sincerely" is mostly rated by his die-hard fans. It delivers a few laughs, but falls quite flat with most jokes.

This guy has an AMAZING PR Firm
Her-Excellency5 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched two of his "I need money, so I am putting out a comedy show" 'specials, and can HONESTLY not find a single thing funny about them.

He is BORING.

I SWEAR, listening to him is like going out to eat and listening to a guy at the next table drone on and on about regular stuff for the length of your meal. I LOVE to laugh, and this guy doesn't even tickle one of my eyelashes. It's not his politics either. In fact, I can truly say that I don't remember his stance on any particular political thing, because his droning-on is so monotonous and UNFUNNY. I do remember that in this show he talks about God (not a spoiler as that is one of the topics the synopsis details), but there's no punchline. He outs himself as a pedo, and that's supposed to be funny, I guess? He talks about his mom dying and the cremator who came to pick her up in a van spending too much time in her room. THINK about it ... how many ways is there to make that funny? Louis C. K. didn't know how to either. Did I catch the tail-end of his career? Was he funny when he first started out? I'd ask how it is that he has any 'fans', but I really don't think he does. Back to that terrific PR firm.

In fact, in this show, they obviously had planted members within the audience to motivate others to laugh during the show (a known practice, and who can blame him), but one starts yelling at the beginning/opening, then another, and soon, the audience (because people are followers), pick it up, and there is this grand cheering for him ... which I cannot explain.

In short, I won't go as far as to say we fell asleep while watching it, but we did talk, play on our phones, get up several times without bothering to hit reverse ... and so the thought of people actually paying money to watch this, is ... unfathomable to me - and yet it is obvious that people are lured to do so by that jacked-up 8+ Rating. Finding out who his excellent PR Firm is, and hiring them to 'up' ones' "it"-factor, however, that would be priceless.

I dislike most comedy specials. In this one I was sitting alone in my room laughing out loud the whole special.
jonasleaparis8 April 2020
This, in my opinion, is the best special Louis has ever released. And I've watched A LOT of specials, this is definitely top 5, if not top 3. I was belly laughing and was tired of laughing by the end, sitting alone in my room. That should tell you something. Go watch it!

FilmFan1231385017 April 2020
SO happy he is back, been waiting for this a long time and he delivered brilliantly once again. Stand-up was just not the same with him gone and he manages to make you laugh regardless of how sensitive the topic is.

A courageous comedian is most certainly a great one.
augustuskepler9 April 2020
There isn't much to be said, but Louis CK never fails to surprise you by developing his way of delivering a joke, it's a mix of being both subtle and "in your face", it's not a cheap comedy, even if it can sometimes have a little slow pace, it actually makes you think for a second until you realize you can't stop laughing, but you stop your laughter only to hear the other joke, a comedy which is respected and well appreciated.

As objective as I can be
mhert-690798 December 2020
He did something that was quite bad. That didn't make me dislike the special. People do bad things and I don't feel the need to be angry about it.

The special was not great. I think, if you are a fan, you expected that he was a bit of a scum bag. I think as the reality of that hit, he just doesn't have the voice he used to. It makes you realize that the punch lines centered around him crossing lines are not edgy but just his life. Because it is no longer unexpected, it is just not that funny.

His bits in the past about dropping off the car in an an intersection stand the test of time. This one was clunky and Hacky. It was like he was mildly ashamed the whole time. And I just kind of felt sorry for him.

I can't say enough good things about this special...
lmweaver-875137 April 2020
It wasn't as good as Brenda Schaub's special, but who is funnier than Brenda right now? 😖 As most people are, I am a big fan of Burr & Chappelle, but with their last specials (although funny) never crossed that line. You could tell that the cancel culture affected them. CK not only stepped over that constantly moving line society has created, but set it alight. It was hilarious and insightful as usual. Thoroughly recommend it. Nice work Louie! 9.5/10 Stars Hope this review is helpful. Cheers!
