  Duncan Bannatyne : When did you and your brother start doing comedy?

  Paul Chuckle : Well, Dad was a comedian...

  Duncan Bannatyne : Oh, right.

  Paul Chuckle : ...And Mum was a dancer...

  Duncan Bannatyne : Right.

  Paul Chuckle : ...Our elder two brothers were a singing-dancing comedy act... And, uh, the natural thing to do was join Barry, who was already a solo comic.

  Duncan Bannatyne : How old were you then?

  Paul Chuckle : 15. Dad told us, "Concentrate on one thing"...

  Duncan Bannatyne : Yeah.

  Paul Chuckle : ...You know, which we did comedy. After 23 years, we made it.

  [Both Duncan and Paul laugh] 

  Paul Chuckle : [voiceover]  Barry and I were partners for 55 years. Um, he died in 2018. Really miss him. We were very close. I only found out 6-7 weeks before he died that he'd got cancer at all. Few days before he did die, he did say, "You will carry on, won't you?" and I said, "Well, I'll try my best, mate."

  Paul Chuckle : That was '87, the first series of ChuckleVision. 2010, they stopped it.

  Duncan Bannatyne : Must've been a thrill to get your own TV show.

  Paul Chuckle : Yeah, it was cool, it was great. 23 years of it is a long, long time. 292 episodes.

  Duncan Bannatyne : Wow.

  Paul Chuckle : Yeah, they were good days.

  Paul Chuckle : [voiceover]  Actually, working on stage on my own, you know, without Barry, you... you haven't got the safety net of... of your partner if something goes wrong. We constantly laughed on stage. He'd make me laugh, I'd make him laugh all the time. We just loved doing it. That's gone forever, and that is the thing that upsets me more than anything, that I'll never have that on stage again, having a laugh with Barry. But, life goes on.
