Prem TAME
akbrahmo14 May 2021
The film at least in initial phase had promised to grow into a taut movie on "Love" in different hues and depths. Pablo is like any of typical ' Bengali' boys who fall in love, from class six onwards regularly, with multiple beauties! ( being a probashi bong from Delhi and now living in poschim bangla, can safely say Premtame is the most loved pastime here). It can be cerebral love as well as shallow relationships( as Pablo has with Arshi & Raji). There is no depth in their togetherness. Didn't follow why Raji had to be shown as a PhD student! She as Pablo and Arshi's classmate would have looked more believable. Everything was developing into a cute plot( with Soumyo, Shweta and Sushmita doing their parts well), enters from nowhere Khagen, the canine( wanted to say dog but then the 5-7 or 8" Raji was breathing down my neck- am 5-5"). He is the kabab mei haddi! Very possessive of his mentor Raji. From that point, it became an animal film which kids would enjoy immensely.

Raji is on her own trip- on a quest to discover the unknown? Don't know.

Dénouement is long and it drags. We wish when the film would end. A promising to be plot, was murdered as a bong would put it. Soumyo and Sushmita are good actors, especially the latter. Konkona is wasted as usual. She should concentrate on film making.

By Anindyo's standards it was a TAME affair.

2 hours of my life that I'll never get back
drsombitbandyopadhyay16 April 2021
This is one of those movies that clearly demonstrates how much the quality of Bengali movies have fallen over the years.

There's barely 30mins of story and that's not even uniformly spread out. The movie started as fast paced, and soon they ran out of story then the whole movie started dragging.

But there's a limit to how much you can drag without a story. So I guess the director gathered a team to brainstorm on what else can they do to lengthen the duration to 2 hours. Soon after the initial 45 minutes the movie changed into a sort of a tour guide of the historic places of Chandannagar. That went on for some time.

Once they ran out of the tourist spots, the movie started to become even more dragging. The director seemed absolutely clueless on how to spend the time.

And even if you somehow manage to drag on hoping for a climactic end, be warned, there is none.

So don't make the same mistake I did. Don't waste your time.

Bengali directors keep complaining that Tollywood is dying because the people don't support regional movies anymore, but that's absolutely not true. Directors like this the ones dragging the industry down.

I watched this movie assuming that this director wouldn't do a substandard film...but this movie proves me wrong starting from the story, direction to acting everything is awful except cinematography.

Starting was really good but it did not found its way later on.
abrardany21 May 2021
From the starting it was enjoyable. Susmita, Soumya, Sweta's acting was really good. But the story lost its way later on. Looks like scriptwritter some how did not manage to think about how to end the story. However, specially Susmita keep audience attracted by her lovely acting and sweet smile. Though, thr stoty seems unfinished but yet enjoyed it. Happy Watching.

A movie that doesn't make sense at all
deyanwesa-2686014 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The director seems to be confused about his own art and consequently confuses the audience. Did the director want this to be an "Incredible India" documentary on Chandannagar ? Did the director want this to be a love story ? Unfortunately, the fact is this movie wanted to cover both but became turned out to be a meaningless video of 2 hours. Even the characters are so ill-etched. You will get to see a lame mother who has a dumb son who turns out to be a lame boyfriend of two lame women - one of them who has zero clarity about her life and another woman whose only life goal is to tame that lame boyfriend. An absolute meaningless movie! Anindya C should go back to Chandrabindoo instead of making a fool of himself as a director, atleast he got some respect as a singer...!!

Bengal's 500DoS or VCB
Debajyoti_Guha14 April 2021
Extremely underrated by regular movie-goers in search of stupid old love stories. This movie is the beginning of new-wave bengali rom-com. This is perhaps the first bengali rom-com where the Manic-Pixie-Dream-Girl trope has been given a character of flesh-and-blood like Summer of 500DoS. The backdrop being a Portuguese/Dutch colony of Chandernagore may also be a tribute to Vicky-Christina-Barcelona which matches with the nuances of the central characters in this movie thematically.

And the showstealer? Khogen, the mongrel.

This movie maturely handles the three types of love in Pablo's life. One that is conditional but settling, one that is unbounded but unsettling and one that is unbounded and unconditional .

Are you excited to see how it goes with Pablo?

Prem Tame Is A (Mostly) Lame College Romance, With An Inspired Final Act
shefali-5924423 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When you are critiquing a new film, you're not just critiquing a film. You are critiquing a filmmaking culture, the tendencies and the aesthetics that culture imposes on every film that's made as a part of the machinery. I find this especially true for contemporary Bengali cinema-maybe because I cover it- where the fault lines are pretty obvious. I have lost count on the number of times I've reasoned that X film didn't work because, even though it had some interesting ideas, the execution failed them. Or, for instance, there seems to be something artificial about the way the actors say their lines. Or the over reliance on background score to sail the audience through a scene. Most of these are true for Anindya Chattopadhyay's Prem Tame-the last two to be exact. You are tempted to say that the film must've sounded good on paper, it's the execution....but that's not true.
