In many ways, very exceptional

For a film made by relatively inexperienced film makers, this is an amazing product. While I have recently seen several other films from directors James and Robert Dastoli (such as the wonderful "Dark Exposures"), this one is by far the most professional looking--with a great cinematic look despite having limited funds. At first I just couldn't believe that the film came from a small independent film company. Considering that the short film is set in outer space, it really shows that the film makers are up to the task when it comes to producing excellent CG backgrounds and space ships. This could have looked sloppy but it sure wasn't.

Despite loving the film's look, there was problem with the script. While the idea was excellent, the film seemed to have some clichés when it came to the relationship between the man and woman. At times, some of their actions and banter just seemed too familiar and a bit hard to swallow. Initially they argue and she is the plucky lady who won't let a man tell her what to do (right from VAN HELSING--another clichéd film when it came to romantic tension). Then, predictably, they fall in love. Now I did really like what happened to the relationship later--it really came together very well at the end. It's just that the stuff in the middle really didn't fit the fantastic artistry, direction and story idea--it could use a bit of a polish. Still, considering how professional the film did look, I can easily ignore this problem and assume that with time the Dastolis will make big names for themselves in features.
