I love trivia shows! But this one has a fatal flaw...
robertbetts-5753212 March 2023
Trivia shows are great since you can play along with the contestants. Get your answers right and you et more money!

Except on this show...

I absolutely HATE the fact that the strongest link in each round can be voted off. A person can get EVERY ANSWER RIGHT and still be voted off! The show would be improved 1000% if they made the one rule change of protecting the strongest link in each round. It would still allow someone to slip up and get voted out at any time, but reward those who excel. This should happen.

Jane Lynch is just snarky enough to make it fun without destroying the contestants. There is enough strategy so there is some thinking beyond answering the questions. There is good diversity in the contestants and just enough tough questions to be credible. Other than the fatal flaw discussed above, the show is very accessible.

Enjoyable Show, that could use a tweak
spoofrice113 April 2024
I'm not a big Trivia guy, but enjoy watching and playing along when I have the Weakest Link on. There is a decent variety on questions where you might be asked about science, math, nursery rhymes, or pop culture.

Also, Jane's funny/cheesy comments make it more interesting.

I don't get why banking is considered so important on who is the strongest link though. If you got it wrong then you helped the team, but if you got it right, it is better if you didn't bank as the money jumps for more correct answers. Also, questions take too much time off the clock and if someone answers with a couple of seconds left, they can't bank that money.

The main thing that is annoying about this show (and wish they would fix) is, the strongest players gets voted off almost every game before the end, where there is nothing they can do to prevent it. In most challenge shows if you win you keep going/are safe. But in this show even if you don't miss 1 question, the others can (and usually do) vote you off because you are too good and they don't want to face you (cowards).

The Strongest Link of each round should be safe for that elimination. Like I said almost every other show if you win/are the best, you don't get eliminated.

Flawed

Show concept is great but the actual weakest link should be removed or the strongest should have power of "Vito" as when there is a tie which is decided by strongest link. Watching the smartest get eliminated with the most fortunate winning is unfulfilling and silly. The popular choice would be to see the smartest not the luckiest win. Without Jane Lynch hosting I wouldn't watch at all.

Jane is Not Anne
dwest53014 October 2020
It's a good thing that Jane is doing the show her way and not trying to be a curt Anne (who I also thought was great) from the previous run of Weakest Link. Jane gives a solid delivery with her dry humor. I enjoy the format and lightheartedness of the show. My husband and I love trivia/quiz shows and the randomness of the questions makes it fun to play along while watching. We'll keep watching!

Fluff and Repetition; Best seen on DVR with Fast Forward
ray-0194425 November 2020
Similarly to Wheel of Fortune, a fan of game shows soon learns what 70% of a show to skip. Bringing the whole WL show down to one player who probably had little right to get all the money takes away all my interest in who votes how. If the players would coordinate at all they would realize that the most money comes from banking more often when the (early) chains' money jumps are unchanging, and delaying banking in later, longer chains with their super payoffs. Until that happens, the host's endless admonitions about how much potential money was lost are repetitive fluff. Other than that, good trivia questions being answered quickly is very entertaining.

Jane Lynch is hilarious!
heatherschristopher14 October 2020
I loved the Weakest Link back in 2001 and I'm so excited that it's back. They made it even better by adding the great Jane Lynch. Her dry humor and personality are like no other! Thank you NBC for bringing this back and making it even better by adding Jane!

Great reboot
ajelliott-386693 February 2021
Out of all of the terrible remakes of classic game shows that have been coming out (Millionaire, Supermarket Sweep, Name That Tune) and even new ones that are just awful (The Hustler), this is the only one (besides maybe Match Game) that I not only enjoy, but also look forward to each new episode. Even the new The Chase is not as compelling as its predecessors.

Love Jane Lynch as the host. Only real complaints I have are that some jokes fall flat, and I wish the question rounds were longer.

EDIT: I take back what I said about jokes falling flat. I think they perfectly add to the host's character of "I don't care if you think I'm funny, i really don't want to be here."

Great show, funny, and exciting!
alydar-9237320 October 2020
I am loving this show and already hope it will get renewed for Season 2. It's exciting, fun to watch, and Jane has her funny moments. I haven't watched the original show, but watching this version was definitely enjoyable. I look forward to watching each episode!

She went over the line!!!
donnamac-3981826 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like watching the show and the hosts little digs and jabs BUT when a contestant misspelled respect and she called him a MORON it was way out of line. Not funny,Just so wrong. Jane owes the contestant a big apology.

It's called "Weakest Link" because that is who wins.
kenithbaker7 June 2022
What a terrible concept. A player could answer every single question correctly, bank all kinds of money and STILL not make the final two! Just watched a person get voted off after being the strongest link FIVE TIMES in a row! So if you have marginal intellect, and only work hard sometimes, this game is for you.

The negative reviewers spoke too soon!
MyMovieTVRomance18 October 2020
I was a huge fan of the original US version with Ann Robinson and was looking forward to this. Jane Lynch is an all-time crush of mine, and I just knew she would ace this gig! That being said, the first episode was lackluster. Some of the lines fell flat, the chemistry between everyone felt blah, and the show, while okay, just struck me as generally, dare I say- WEAK.

HOWEVER! I wasn't ready to give up on it, so went back a few weeks later, and watched 2 more episodes, back to back on Hulu- with another the next day! That's how good it became- so good, I binged it! Don't write this show off. It is a winner!!

And for all those complaining that Jane isn't as good as Ann, I think you are letting nostalgia blind you to how good Jane Lynch really is as hostess of this program! Don't believe me? Go back on YouTube and watch the premier episode of the US version from 2001 that Ann hosted, and you'll see right away how good Jane really is at holding her own! In fact, the whole show is actually an IMPROVEMENT over the original, because while maintaining the ingredients that made the other work, it has a better set, massively better lighting, and just overall better feel. And again, I say that as someone who loved the original!

And for those complaining about the easy questions, saying that the show isn't challenging enough, I say a gameshow isn't great because of how hard it is, but because of how engaging it is. This version of The Weakest Link is VERY engaging BECAUSE of the easy-ish questions, allowing those at home to literally be able to play along, which adds to the fun. And at the same time, the show is still challenging enough to be not only entertaining, but educational too. You will come away from it smarter than before- if not in actual trivia, then in humor!

Anyone who appreciates classic quiz shows with wicked good humor, the likes of which I haven't seen since Match Game of the 1970s- then watch this! Watch it and keep it on the air!

Not fair
LukeCoolHand20 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There are 2 things I don't like about this show. One, the questions vary in difficulty way too much making it unfair to the contestants that get the hard question, They should put the contestants in soundproof booths and give them the same question. Also I don't like the voting thing which is not fair. The last show I saw, a guy got voted off by 2 women and the guy did not miss a single question and the girl who won thought there were 20 inches in a yard. Anyway I watch it for the trivia questions but it is definitely not my favorite game show.

Diverse contestants. Fast-paced. Wide-range of subject matter. Put-downs aren't cruel.

Jane Lynch is PERFECT! I hope she is happy here and continues for many more seasons.

This is the ONLY game show I watch.

A great reboot of Weakest Link. Jane Lynch is definitely the host of this show.
abalpn-9947218 February 2022
I've watched the original show starring Anne Robinson and George Gray. Anne Robinson insults everyone with her tone and attitude. That's what I like about Anne and she would try to scare the contestants. Before George Gray became the announcer of The Price Is Right, he was the comedian above Anne. Now Jane Lynch is the new host and she still makes the jokes.

I enjoy that the hosts insult the contestants of how smart they are or how dumb they are. They insult of how they bank their money if the total's low. They would usually insult him or her of not answering the question very well. Overall, this is a great show to watch and to be entertained by Jane or the struggling contestants.

Jane Lynch isn't funny
davilavieracarlos30 September 2020
Just watched the first episode. Now, Jane Lynch's schtick has been "I'm rich, deadpan, and kinda mean" for a while, it hasn't gotten any funnier to be honest. Especially in this context, the jokes have the same punchline every time and it's just not funny.

The trivia and competition aspect would be pretty fun but the questions jump around from absurdly easy to pretty difficult making that whole part of it unfair.

I haven't seen a lot of the old Weakest Link but the old host's no BS attitude worked so much better than Lynch's terrible attempts at humor before every commercial break.

The best of all the recent game show reboots
cmorrow4128 May 2021
Obviously some of the reviewers are not familiar with the nature of the show. Jane's snarky comments and dry humor are inspired by the original version and are done humorously, not to belittle anyone. Lighten up.

This is easily the best out of all the recent game show reboots and it's not even close. Most of them have been dreadful and legitimately unwatchable. The Weakest Link is the only one that I actually get excited to watch and hearing that its renewed for Season 2 is even more exciting! Can't wait for this to come back.

My only gripe: I hate seeing some of the smartest people being voted out before the final round! Almost makes me wish they would change the rules but I understand it's part of the strategy.

Not the Same without Anne
davidwhite-1492613 October 2020
Anne Robinson, Jane Lynch is not! She tries to be as snarky and mean as Anne, but she just lacks rudeness that Anne brought to the show! I feel like this show is very boring, now!

Who needs to take classes on how to be a good game show host? Who doesn't have what it takes to fill Anne Robinson's shoes?

JANE LYNCH, YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK! GOODBYE!

She is very funny and witty on this show. Season 2 Episode 5, she had me cracking up most of the show. I will be continuing to watch. Hope she continues to make fun of the players on the shows going further. Seriously funny episode 2:5!!!

Mostly enjoyable but not without its flaws
spencer-w-hensley15 March 2022
I like the reboot for the most part. If for nothing else at all the strategy and rules of the game make it worth a watch in my opinion.

Yes, Jane Lynch is nowhere near as good as Anne Robinson but it is nice to see an American host on the show and I knew beforehand it wouldn't be as good without the original British host but they definitely give it their best effort which is much appreciated.

I think Jane needs to be more mean like Robinson was. Robinson would smirk or hide her laughter on occasion but her insults are what made the show.

Lynch has some of her own insults but they are even more dry than most British humor and some of them are only chuckle funny at best.

Also she smiles way too much, and just doesnt seem that mean to be honest. Robinson only smiled when she genuinely couldn't help it because a contestant made her laugh but for the most part she was always very deadpan.

By making Jane Lynch smile and seem happy at times it weakens the trademark of what the show is supposed to be about.

I also dont like how the contestants insult the players during the walk of shame. It worked sometimes on the original version when Robinson asked a contestant their reasons for voting for someone but here sometimes it seems like Jerry Springer style insults that just dont work.

I am happy it got a renewal for a season 2 but unless some changes are made I am afraid there may not be a season 3. Jane, stop smiling, laughing and being nice sometimes. You are supposed to be mean! That's the whole point of your role.

Aside from the flaws though it is nice this show is back and I would like a season 3 albeit with some changes.

Jane's BS attitude is belittling
jamessadler-134311 October 2020
This episode was painful to watch for the contestants due to Jane's rude and insulting attitude toward them. She fell flat on every attempt to be humorous at the contestant's expense. This season of The Weakest Link is insulting to game shows on primetime. I will not waste time watching any future episodes !

Loving it!
Tayyasqueen28 March 2022
This show is so enjoyable! Jane does a great job with her insults, they don't cut too deep, and are pretty comical. I look forward to this show every week and I'm tickled it's back on for its long awaited season two. One can expect a different experience every episode, being with different contestants, and how Jane relates to their specific stories with her witty and spot on commentary. An easy watch, with trivia that isn't too difficult, when compared to other trivia game shows.
