What worked last season isn't working this season...
Piedradura25 September 2021
Maybe it's having lived through the last 19 months, but watching these narcissists bloviate incessantly isn't doing it for me so far this season. It's slick, well-produced, and well-acted. The writing is not so great, though. I'll keep watching in the hope it'll get better.

They've build a problem and have a hard time to get out of it
frankhenneick25 September 2021
Now with the second episode, the big problem with The Morning Show shows. It's still entertaining and well-produced television, with a fabulous cast. But if you need two episodes to get all the pieces back on the chessboard, then you've done something wrong in story telling. In my opinion, the end of the first season has left a total mess that the first two episodes of the new season have destroyed the viewing pleasure. I hope it gets better!

Gets more dramatic but...
zachmetzgers12 December 2021
The story gets more dramatic with the episode with higher drama and more conflict. So there are some really interesting scenes. However, Bradley is acting out in a way that feels unrealistic and entitled. I know she's always been a stubborn, hot-headed character. In s1, I applauded some of her brave actions and I disagreed with some of her actions too, but I always found her understandable and very entertaining to watch. But in the episode (and ep1), she comes across as childish with zero gratitude for the good things that she DOES have. Hoping that's because a good character arc will be set up for her. Because if I'm supposed to be feeling sympathy for her because some business maneuvering went on without her knowledge, well... that's a bit tone deaf. Cry me a river, Bradley. Just saying.

It will be interesting to see how Covid is incorporated. So far, the nuggets dropped are interesting and well done. Oh, how oblivious we all we. It's a snapshot of the time "before" Covid and I look forward to seeing how they handle the pandemic.

Fine television

The plot, acting, scoring, cinematography are top notch in Its Like The Flu. Apple may be peacocking here with their flagship series, but it is masterfully done and with taste. I'm excited to see what more this season has to show us, if only every episode could be so enjoyable.

Apple is making this show into a masterpiece
moviesfilmsreviewsinc16 March 2022
"It's Like the Flu" primarily revolves around the machinations involved in getting Alex back to The Morning Show, which honestly takes a lot longer than they necessarily need to. The above statement also applies to the extremely obvious and disturbingly insidious creep of COVID-19. The Morning Show's apparently decided that what audiences really want is to relieve the onset of a pandemic we're all still in the middle of and to do it by nostalgically framing the hamfisted way the media covered the virus in the first place. Aniston and Witherspoon really are great together, and though the fact that The Morning Show doesn't seem to know how to frame their relationship as anything other than adversarial in the end, both women infuse their scenes with so many layers that it gives everything more nuance than it probably deserves. Mitch Kessler of it all. Look, I get that Steve Carrell is great and that playing a complete sleazebag is very against type for him and blah blah blah, it's a very strong performance. His awkward Italian gelato cafe run-in with two women - one publicly shaming him and the other defending his right to be a creep in public - is...well, it's difficult to parse what precisely The Morning Show is trying to do here. Whichever way you choose to read that scene, it's hard not to be furious at the show essentially making fun of both young feminists who want to use social media to force men to at least acknowledge the harm they've done and older women who find their younger compatriot's feminism limiting and performative, it leaves very little room for nuance or the idea that women can and should be allowed to feel and express a vast array of feelings about men like Mitch.

It's Like the Flu

Warning: Spoilers
So, there were a few funny moments here and there, but for the most part this was adults acting like children. A big issue with the show is that it is difficult to root for any of them as they are all lying and coniving.

A few things...
gregg-524-16313526 September 2021
A few things to say...I cannot stand Bradley Jackson or even Reese Witherspoon. What a spoiled, self serving, horrible person Bradley Jackson is. She plays the roll well because it is very easy to detest her. Love the show...obviously I have tremendous dislike for the character of Bradley Jackson. I wish she was fired just to see her ego shot down.

Who do she think she is?
majafol30 October 2022
One sentence going through my head this entire episode: who do she think she is? I don't understand why Bradley all of a sudden is acting childish and entitled. Maybe more time has gone by since S1 than I know? But she is acting like it is her, not Alex, that worked on the show for 15 years. Yes she had to carry the show bla bla bla, but does that give her the right to act like that, and especially towards her manager? I really hope Bradley is going back to being the person she was through season 1, because if not I will not like this season as much as I liked season 1. They did Bradley dirty on this one....

Mindless rabble

Good acting and lots of drama - but it is like daytime soap opera where no one is really likable.

This was a a money grab based on the success and quality of season 1.

Kindergarten episode
rozapeonija18 October 2021
The episode is filled with childish nicks and whims. In the first episodes of the first season, Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) was positioned as a strong, independent journalist, truth fighter. Gradually, her true face was revealed - a selfish, capricious, grumpy creature whose ambitions far surpass those of talent. In this season, she is openly childish and hysterical, with no mention of professionalism or understanding of building a polite or respectful relationship with others. Unpleasant to watch. Admittedly, the intrigues of others are also infantile and partly meaningless, as everything fits together.

There's No World Beyond the USA
MeadtheMan27 October 2023
It's a small part of this otherwise okay episode, but dear U. S. A., why every time it's about something beyond your borders, the ignorance and carelessness just shine through? You could spend so much budget shooting scenes in Italy, and you couldn't make the easier parts bearable? First of all, the stereotype of an Italian woman who would even retaliate by singing about Mussolini? Is there anything else from that country besides Mussolini and gelato? Then her use of the word "scofflaw," which is not only a highly unusual word to be used even in the States, but it's also an informal North American term? Why in the world would an Italian ever use that word? There's absolutely no reason.

The script, albeit generally well-written, also suffers from a lack of flow. It feels like it's been overly workshopped.

Also there's no flight as long as 23 hours (let alone direct flight to Wuhan). The current longest flight is NYC-Singapore at 18 hours 40 mins.

Do better, The Morning Show. You've got the production budget that anyone could ever dream of. Be better than people showcased in Youtube videos who could never name anything beyond the borders of the country. Put in some, any, efforts in trying to learn how others think and behave. Don't just use a country as a nice backdrop and their countrymen's accents as quirky pops of colors when it's convenient.

Is it just me, or...?
nakrugt30 September 2021
Is it just me, or who cares about Mitch Kessler in this season?

I like Steve Carell, but this character does not have any function left in the show.

Kessler is in Italy most probably because Italy was the European country with the most serious cases of Corona back then.

The show itself is no longer about MeToo and seems to be rolling into the "media business insider" genre, which almost nobody cares any more after Covid and lockdowns.

The focus, I believe, will shift this season onto media "during Corona", but, again, who cares today?

Bad Bradley
chicagosox5 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What a train wreck this season has been so far. The show flipped to Bradley being the villain way too quickly. They could've blended it way better if that was their goal. It just felt like they copy and pasted the way Alex treated Bradley season 1 into the way Bradley treats Alex in season 2. Just lazy! Originality went out the window and fast. Every likable character is now putrid to a core. Alex is the only one who has a bit of depth to her character. She has stayed true to her original character and the development is ever improving. Bradley is a shallow, egotistical celebrity. Exactly opposite of who she was season 1. Why turn back on something that was working so well? I let episode 1 slide in season 2 but it's become irredeemable. The drama feels soap opera levels. Corey, who we all loved season 1, has become a nervous wreck, portrayed as being borderline incompetent in his role. Why are these massive transitions in character personalities happening so quickly? It just puts you off the show and makes it very hard to enjoy. I think the show is trying to portray the people that called out inequalities during the MeToo movement as being hypocrites, which is extremely offensive. The show lost all moral and righteous qualities as fast as they could and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Everyone is vindictive, self serving trash. I am going to continue watching for at least another episode but it has officially left the ranks as a decent show with this start to season 2. Sorry for the rant, but I really enjoyed season 1 and this is just sad.
