Full Circle Moment
FilmBrat1053 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's fair that the gunman, Nelson, goes out by getting shot to death. As he's killed off a handful of characters the same way, it feels like a proper full circle moment. I like the concept of Wendy checking herself into a psych ward however it's far too late in the show for this song-and-dance, and in turn made the episode feel very stagnant when things should otherwise be much faster paced. Wonderful acting & cinematography as always, but I'm a little nervous as this is the penultimate episode and doubts are beginning to creep in. Camila makes for a good villain, but with all the plots and what-not being crammed in now, I can't help but feel the show should've had a fifth season or just made better use of the additional episodes they got for this season.

Mud - 413

Warning: Spoilers
Nothing that special for most of the episode, but the last 10 minutes or so was great. Julia Garner did some of her best acting of the season during the confession and then in the warning call.

"Either kill the man or join the church!"
bosporan4 May 2022
An OK story for mid season, albeit the weakest, but for the penultimate outing this is not good enough and leaves too much work for the finale to close things out. That notwithstanding, there is too much going on here and it feels rushed, though the ending is quite satisfying.

Not Poor Writing- The Point is That Money Gets it Done!
alexdiflip10 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
People miss the point of this series completely and write it off for the same things they used to love about it. Why is everyone complaining about the timeline here? It really isn't rushed at all. The plots have all been simmering simultaneously and this episode was actually a great tension relieving one, with a lot of plots paying off and combining together before the finale.

First off, the whole point of this show is that they can get through anything with money. Most of the stuff they do in this series is supposed to take much, MUCH longer than it does for them, but they barrel through it all the same because anybody is willing to take the bribe: even a pharmaceutical company or the FBI. Besides, it wasn't exactly easy to convince the Justice to expunge the record. I felt instead that Ruth was smart enough to politically maneuver through the situation.

The thing people used to love about this show has now become something they criticize it for. I feel like people went back and reviewed these episodes poorly AFTER watching the finale and disliking the ending. The plot is rocketing forward here and this episode was extremely tense! Don't believe the haters!

What....... is.... going.... on....
moviesfilmsreviewsinc28 July 2022
Episode 13 opens with Ruth, who is calling shots on her construction site in the Ozarks - she's building a new house for herself. She's no longer going to be living in a trailer. Her old life is over, or at least she thinks it is.

Wendy tries to check herself in at a mental health center, claiming she's not well. However, they want her to check in properly, making her extremely angry at the person who assesses her. They deny her a bed and tell her she needs to get a therapist. She's not in a good place after Nathan took her children - Marty is a little concerned about what his wife is up to. Marty heads to the casino to see he no longer owns the casino, and it's all under Ruth. Marty is surprised to see her criminal record has been cleaned and is the license holder, but he tells her the management needs to be handed to him as it is part of a more comprehensive operation with the Navarro cartel. He calls her actions dangerous. Marty asks Ruth for a "sunset period" because he wants to launder the cartel money through the casino. Ruth tells Marty that her record is cleaned up, so she isn't going to let him or Wendy "clean where she eats." Marty meets his children and begs them to come home. Charlotte asks her father what he's going to do once this is all over after everything Wendy put him through. Marty insists they will all have decisions to make once they have their new life. All the narrative implications show that Wendy is the problem, with Marty being the puppet. The ending of episode 13 marks the last penultimate chapter of Ozark, and of course, the writers decide to ramp up the tension as much as possible. Ruth sees a car following her. It's Nelson, so she heads to sheriff Ronnie's office in the pouring rain. She reveals that the man sitting in prison for Wyatt's murder did not do it. She tells him that Javi from the Navarro cartel did it, so she hunted him down and killed him in Chicago. She also tells him that Javi killed Sheriff Nix too. Rachel picks up the phone. She's enjoying trash reality television in the trailer. Ruth tells her to grab a rifle and run into the woods. But Nelson is already driving towards the trailer, so she has to climb on top of the trailer. Ruth tells Rachel to kill him. Rachel shoots when the car door opens, and Nelson drops to the floor. He's dead. Ruth finally reaches the trailer, and they both loo.

Why Am I Getting GOT Vibes
noonieblount15 June 2022
I feel like the last few episodes of Season 4 are giving me Game of Throne vibes. I think the writers are cramming in so many characters in one scene and information that makes no sense. All of this back and forth with power struggles over a casino boat, a pharmaceutical company, board of directors, etc. Is hard to believe takes place in a matter of days. Like another reviewer mentioned, it takes me months to settle a minor traffic ticket but this husband/wife duo seem to have the capabilities of placing a candidate in the White House......unbelievable. Oh and what about the temporary sheriff? Is his role over for the season? Will we see the private investigator anymore?

I hope with the Jonah/Charlotte characters they are not planning a spin-off like the hit show Power. It worked for Power, I don't think it will work here.

The decline continues
acj-650043 May 2022
No idea how people can watch this season and think it's good writing. It's been incredibly sloppy and rushed. So many of the characters motivations make no sense anymore and the way the story has been unfolding is illogical.

This cartel comes off as incredibly inept and understaffed as well. They appear to have all of 1 person working for them in the states. Everyone seems to blame Marty for everything for some reason even though he's the only competent one left and everyone only has themselves to blame for the situations they end up in.

I can already tell the last episode is going to be incredibly unsatisfying. There have just been way too many plot contrivances and nonsensical decisions for me to have any faith left that they will manage to have a decent finale.

Jonah likes brunettes
dannylee-7808216 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
1. Ruth gets a new house 2. Wendy goes to a Hosptial 3. Rachel gets threatened

Wendy becomes a real Karen. She becomes increasingly unhinged. And things go increasingly bad for the Byrds. Ruth takes control over the casino, making laundering difficult. Omar suddenly tells Camila that he didn't kill Javi. I guess now that he thinks he found out who the traitor was, he trusts her.

Why would Ruth suddenly tell Ronnie everything? For what purpose? Why would Nelson go for Rachel? Because he thinks that Rachel didn't launder and got Ruth to blow the truth? What is this writing? I'm not following it at all. I guess you can explain it - but anything that needs validation is... not good. You could have added a single shot that explains why Nelson is following Ruth because it was not done routinely.

On top of that, this episode just felt... choppy. Something off about the storytelling.

This penultimate episode has left us a lot of loose ends and I have a feeling we will get a rushed finale.

To like this episode, you have to assume this is science fiction
maurice1111113 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Can someone tell me how long it would actually take to expunge a lengthy criminal record, settle a will where the prime suspect in a double homicide is the sole beneficiary of a cousin's estate (by way of a known drug dealer - who had a child), apply for and get a gambling licence, complete a hostile take over of a private casino (backed by none other than a cartel)? All the while keeping it a secret from the cartel and Byrde's who supposedly know all the major political players.

I know in my reality, I can't even get a parking ticket taken care of for months.

Two million dollars?
harralph10 May 2022
Wendy would have had to have 20,000 one hundred dollar bills ( the largest current U. S. denomination) in that bag. I don't think she really had $2,000,000.00 with her.

Is this written by D & D
nkxtc693 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's like they watched game of thrones and thought that's the way to do it. Far too rushed and what was a highly intelligent build up of 4 seasons it's now gone to me constantly saying to myself "that just wouldn't happen"

Marty outsmarts the FBI the cartel basically anyone who goes against him yet somehow Ruth manages to beat him on first go....please. I do like Ruth and she was showing signs of what she learnt from Marty but this happened far too quickly and story has lost its flow.

Such a shame for what was a great series up to now.

Agonizingly bad...
gnarira19 May 2022
The writing, acting and rushed plot lines makes the last season of GoT seem like a master class compared to this drivel. I'm forcing myself to finish this train wreck like eating a late night Denny's grand slam after a bender. Absolutely brutal...

Tired and want it over
mikefarrell-2429128 June 2022
The only good character left is Ruth.

Jason Bateman is so wrongly cast for this role! Nothing seems to phase him and even when he is upset it's kind of like, "oh well, we'll figure it out." Laura Linney is doing a good job of making me never want to see her again...which might also mean her acting is good?

The story arc with the kids is too unbelievable.

The only thing that might make this a good ending is if Jonah blows his parents away...or at least his mother.

Nathan is a good character and good arc, but not enough time left to see that play out.

Can't wait for the end!
