The sixth season had a new producer in the shape of William J. Stewart, who'd worked on 'Bless This House' and who later became host of Channel 4's day time game show 'Fifteen To One'. Vince Powell opted not to return, so new writers were brought in, amongst them Brian Cooke and Johnnie Mortimer ( working separately ) of 'Man About The House' fame, Jon Watkins, and 'Coronation Street' scribes Adele Rose and H.V. Kershaw.
This above average opener was by Sid Colin, creator of 'The Army Game', co-writer of 'Carry On Spying' and co-creator of 'Up Pompeii!'.
Barbie is preparing a luscious Sunday lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, and invites the Booths. At the club, Jacko is showing off the latest addition to his 'Black Museum Of Crime' - a set of handcuffs that once allegedly belonged to Dr.Crippen. He puts them on Bill and Eddie to show they still work. They do. Alas, he does not have the key...
The Stanley Kramer film 'The Defiant Ones' ( starring Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier ) is given a 'L.T.N'.-style make-over here, with our heroes having to go home for dinner desperately trying not to bring attention to the fact they are handcuffed to one another. This idea has been used in other sitcoms, but because this is 'L.T.N.' it seems funnier. David Rowlands once more plays the Vicar. Incidentally, the 'tinned missionary' joke later resurfaced in the 'Yes Minister' episode 'The Official Visit'.
Funniest moment - a handcuffed Eddie and Bill trying to eat dinner.
